My new '71T Coupe

I have been looking for a daily beater. This one just appeared on my lap. I was working in my yard, when I saw an early 911/912 on the back of a roll back. I grabbed my bike and followed it to a neighbor about 10 houses up. It broke down on him and he had to get it towed home. He said he didnt want to deal with it and he was going to sell it. I asked how much, looked under the car, and shook his hand. Fortunately I live downhill from him. I just rolled it all the way into my garage!!

Not sure what is wrong with it yet. I will do a compression check on it tonight.

Front pan is solid, rear torsion area is solid, floor pan needs some patching, rear seat area needs patch, and door sill is rusted. The drivers door is barely hanging on. And needs outer rockers.

But she runs!! And numbers matching all original with working AC.

Garage Lift

I noticed in your picture that you have the 911 on a floor lift. I was wondering what make it was? Do you like it? Any downfalls? I have a 911 to work on this fall and I may have to consider a similar lift assuming I can afford it.

Thank you for your time.

Seriously though, great that it was rescued by an enthusiast and will be spared being sent to Pick-a-Part. Congratulations on a fun new driver.

Oops! The car stalled on the PO and would not turn over. He said it was probably the starter. I thought I would change the starter and go vroom vroom. Not so lucky!! The engine is SEIZED!! He was very low on oil. I have no idea exactly what happened but I am pretty sure it can’t be good. I have an extra 2.2T engine so I will use it until I can figure out what to do.

Also, look at the little hole on the rear deck and seats,

I really dont have time for this project, and nobody wants to buy it. What should I do? I am thinking of putting it in storage until I have time to work on it. I dont want to part it out. ????

Part it...... w/ non matching number motor it will never reach a market value that will return the cost of restoration.

I'd just advertise it and sell it for whatever you can get. Someone will buy it, it just needs to be priced right. You may need a "readjustment" to your expectations for what it's worth. A rusted out, seized engine 71 T isn't going to fetch much.

For a project for later, I'd start with something a little more solid.

I am sure the Early 911S Registry guys can find a use for it. Heck, there are guys there who have restored cars worse than that to pristine condition.

It is not in that bad of shape. I am just too busy to start another project right now. I will put it in storage until I get to it if nobody wants it. I just cant part it out. I may scavenge some parts for my other projects.

I do have the original engine case. It was not damaged. The damage was a seized rod bearing. Not sure if it is the numbers matching case, but it is a '71T case. And it was in the car when the PO bought it.
