91 3.6 into 88 Body

I'm going to attempt to put a 3.6 engine into a 1988 body, this is my first attempt at this. Can anyone tell me if they have done this before? What problems they came across? Any modifications they came had to do to the engine or body? Is there any reading material out there that will help with such a project?

Look at what is required from Patrick Motorsports or Instant-G for starters.

Did just that on a friend's '88 Carrera back in 2006 I think. All told it was fairly painless because we took the engine from an already-transplanted car ('79SC w/3.6), so almost all of the conversion requirements were in place. All we had to do was source the clutch, which we got from Instant-G. Everything else was swapping parts from one car to the other.

If you're starting from scratch, heck yeah you need to do a search here to see how others have done it. It's been done by a lot of people and most everybody has had good success.

Everything you need to know can be found in searches here. I put a 93 3.6 in my 85 with a lot of help from threads here. One small bit of advice - go with the full trottle cable solution instead of the hybrid linkage/cable solution. And you can fit a stock 964 air cleaner in the car if you cut the front off - no need for the cone filter thing.

Some of us have done it twice. The two well-beaten paths are Instant-G and Patrick Motorsports. Lots of helpful information on this site, if you search.

Here's the most recent one on my car.

Totally agree with this! I tried the hybrid cable/linkage for a while and it was too makeshift for me.

This worked perfectly: Patrick Motorsports - PMP 911-964-993TC No, its not cheap but then quality usually never is.
