Bosch Starter: Rebuild vs. Replace with new

I have a '69 original starter that still working fine, but is really really tired looking. Dirty and rusty as a result of east coast winter driving in the 70's.

I see Pelican sells new Bosch starters for ~$130, which is also the cost of a rebuild.

Is there anything special about the old Bosch starters that I should preserve with a rebuild, or should i just slap in a new one?

No such thing as a "new" Bosch for your model. They are all remans.

There another thread on remans in the past few days.....take a look at that.

My opinion is to have a local shop rebuild it....they tend to replace everything that is marginal. Lot's of fails right out the box on cheap remans, or within a month or two.

Labor is expensive and/or time comsuming if you DIY....

If it's still working then I'd leave it alone. 911s are easy to "bump start" if the starter fails. Nothing special about the original so if you want to replace it a rebuilt one is fine.
