Thanks for the lead. I hope everyone on this board takes a couple of minutes and signs the petition. Otherwise, we can all kiss goodbye SV's excellent coverage of sportscar and road racing.

This is all well and good, but Fox BOUGHT SpeedVision. If Fox decides SV is going to be the Underwater Basket Weaving channel (based on demographic polling), that's what it'll be. Having said that, I have to find some other way to get my road racing fix, when I can't be on the track. Just maybe, the NASCAR epidemic will begin to wane, and we'll be able to retain F1. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, though.

Fox should unite Nascar and WWF wrestling on to one new channel...( so I could program it OUT of my television )

I urge all who care about sports car and other forms of racing to go sign post haste! I grew up near what is now Lowe's Motor Speedway. Used to be the Charlotte Motor Speedway. NASCAR has become a quasi religion in this area. If you want to get a redneck going, find out which driver he backs and promote another. It is kinda like an automotive WWF. Who knows, maybe we'll see a redneck jihad to convert the world to NASCAR. Go sign it, I'm tired of high speed billboards and black flags with the number 3 everywhere, and I live here.

#4696 here.......I am tired of hearing about NASCAR! What is wrong with the american public. I just love to hear about how stock car fans think their monte carlo is just like the one they see on tv racing round and round in circles. I am dismayed that so many people believe in, as they call it, "high tech" form of motorsports. The production cars that they represent are 2000000 times more advanced than these cup cars. Carburetors on a modern day race car? Come on!
Sorry my P-car friends for the venting, I will be quiet now..... Chris |

Ummm....I LIKE NASCAR racing-(and AMLS, and IRL, and CART, and TransAm, and F1, and SCORE, and....). It's the motorcycle stuff I wish they'd lose!
And how about that GOLF Channel-what a freaking waste of bandwidth-I mean, it's more exciting to watch grass grow or cars rust. Different strokes, guys. |

I don't have a problem with NASCAR racing, itself... There's nothing wrong with actually liking NASCAR. However, I have a big problem with the way that we are now inundated with its hype and coverage at the expense of other motorsports or sports events. Yes, I know; the fan base here in the states is huge, and they spend millions of dollars on NASCAR paraphenalia, tickets, '#3' stickers, 'little boy pissing on #3' stickers, 'little boy pissing on little boy pissing on #3' stickers, etc... But that's why Speedvision is so great. If you wanted NASCAR coverage, you could go to any of the major network affiliates and see it live. But, if you wanted to see Formula 1, GT racing, etc., you had Speedvision to count on. Its uniqueness is what makes it so great, and let's face it... There's no other station that satifies the true automotive enthusiast.
Dammit! It just somtimes seems like everything that is good or working well ultimately gets torn down or discontinued in this country. ------------------ Adam Nitti ajnitti@mindspring.com www.adamnitti.com '85 911 Carrera Coupe PCA member, Peachstate region |

I'm #5183!
I HATE NASCAR! I thought that is what ESPN was for...drag Racing, NASCAR, and "Look At Me...I Can Pull 800LBs uphill Faster Than You" Competitions. That is the most disapointing news I have heard all day. |

Am I missing something? This season at least, Fox does not have an exclusive deal with NASCAR, in fact with the exception of today's Busch series race, the rest of the season will be on NBC and TNN. Does Fox have exclusive broadcast rights for next year?
If this is the case, I am against the move, but for different reasons. I don't subscribe to Speedvision, only because where I live it is only available on the premium "digital cable" service. To get digital cable, you need the digital cable box for each TV, (more than 1 costs extra, of course). I barely watch TV as is, I refuse to pay an extra $50-60 per month for 1 channel. I watch NASCAR because it is the only racing that is always on every weekend of the season. F1 used to be on ESPN, and they used to show other road racing as well, but you could never plan around it, because it was never on at the same time. I know that most Sunday mornings, I can turn on TV and watch a race. If NASCAR moves to Speedvision, The only racing available to me will be NHRA on TNN. Think about it. The reason NASCAR is on FOX/NBC is because of money. They gave NASCAR what 2 billion dollars for the TV rights? ESPN lost because they could not spend that much money even with ABC's help. If NASCAR was on SpeedVision it would cut their potential audience/advertising market by what 80%?
On a side note I have DishNetwork in the San Francisco Bay Area. 4 of the last 6 NASCAR were unavailable on the Dish. My FOX station choose to air Giant's baseball instead. Starting with next week, when the races move to NBC, I still won't get to see NASCAR. DishNetwork and the local NBC channel are fighting. So NBC has been of the air for about 4 months. Time for a nap, those 4:30 a.m. F1 starts take their toll. Tom |
