MSD 6 unit bad? tow it or find something fast

Hey I think my MSD6 with blaster 2 IGN just crapped out on me I had been getting stranded last few months at random but after a while it restarted . Now its dead in a neighborhood a few miles from me... Tach just dropped dead. This time similar except coasted a while and it re fired twice then done.

Probed the wiring and have +12 V to main lead and switched lead coil lead -black is always dead when cranking the other orange is at .2Volts then flashes - OL volts pulled the main coil lead and with car in gear rocked it for point opening / closing while attempting to see a spark and nothing. Is there anything available at our local auto parts that may be half decent to get me home and keep? new CDI

I checked the blaster 2 coil and its 24Kohm across both terminals and .8 ohm main output to either primary . thought about stealing the coil off my 735Il to see if it's just the coil.
I'll call MSD see if those voltages make sense

Ken

SOLVED - non pitted points - worn pont cam block allowed points to open and close but not always deliver continuity. Even after re-gap points closed but didn't make electrical contact.
Pulled points Filed each side installed and gapped and fired right up. A Hall effecct non mechanical point set is on my priority list.

Yea hated to need a roll back and did find a MSD Ign at Advance auto for $228 but really didn't want to go to that extreme either... Took a trip and had the coil off my 81 rabbit with me to test. (didn't need it)
The MSD technical web page had a good troubleshooting section . Ground the white lead from the MSD and the high tension lead from coil should fire. They stated hold it about 1/2 " from metal then ground the white lead that you connect to the Dist. They failed to mention (or maybe I didn't read it but ) don't hold the high tension lead to close to the end when trying to get 1/2" away grounding the white lead. I knew the MSD was Okay when I got a heck of a shock !! From then on left the high tension lead lay by its self for testing.

Dang! these things pack a wallop of power! Don't even brush against the wires on the coil, several hundred volts there when running, gets your attention.

I agree with the above -> Get rid of those points asap. I had a Mallory Hyfire VI AL setup on my old 914 and was always frustrated with the points being the issue. After switching to an MSD system you can take the condenser out of the setup and just use the points as a switching ground connection. But! That fiber block still wears. Be sure to use the Bosch distributor grease for that thing and oil the felt/foam inside.

thats actually several 100,000 volts. most cd's put out around 450v, if the coil is a 100 to 1 setup, thats 450,000v. and yes it hurts like a mother.

the OL on the volt meter should have given it away. that means WAY too much voltage for the meter.
