Dashboard Heater Control problem

Hi,
it seems that the bottom lever (that directs either heated air to the footwells or to the defroster) is not connected to teh cable anymore. I can move it freely left and right and nothing happens.
How do I take out the Dashboard Heater Control Panel? Is there a trick? The right side seems to be willing to pup-out but the left side is not moving....

Open up the front bonnet and have someone move the lever and see if you can find the loose cable on the air distribution unit. If you see nothing move, check under the dash and see if the cable fell off the slider.
Rember, it's after midnight on the west coast of USA. most Pelicans are fast asleep dreaming of there cars!!

If I remember the cable is held in place on the exterior of the blower housing with small metal spring clips check to see if the clips are still in place, may affect the tension, you should be able to tell where the clips would have been as they leave a dented impression on the cable sleeve.

If you removed the radio or/and the clock from the dash would this give you better access to the rear of the sliders. I removed the blower unit last year to replace the burnt out motor. It was a bit fiddly but no big deal.

you will see a small bolt holding it to the firewall if you look with a flashlight. use a 10mm wrench. it still won't come completely out due to cables and wiring, but there you go.
