"Rattle noise, idle, and clutch disengaged"

All, about 1000 miles ago, I had some major work done to my 83 SC... I will not mention the shop. A part of this major work included a new clutch (upgraded), throwout bearing, and a complete overhaul of the transaxle - dog teeth, syncros, sliders? etc. Now, 1000 miles later, I am noticing that when I idle in nuetral, there is a pronoumced rattling sound coming from the bell housing area. If I engage the clutch, the noise goes away (rpms barely rise with the clutch engaged... maybe 25 rpms at most). Is this something that requires immediate attention? I do plan to bring the car back to the shop, but I am hesitant because they may try to tell me that the problem had nothing to do with their work and bill me for the engine drop and any repairs and parts that might be required.

Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Great news, I think, at least the shop can't say it's not because of the work they did.

Thanks again!

bring it back, it is the sign of a noisy throw out bearing.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I have the same issue - what are the consequences of just leaving it alone for a while until I pull the engine for some other work?

Thx!

+ infinity on the "throw it out" bearing
When you hear a rattle when in neutral and not with the clutch in, it is usually the case.
As far as "how long do you have?"- my experience in other cars is that you can wait until you feel like replacing the clutch or in the case of the 911, when you decide to fix some of those oil leaks.....
