What radio came in a 1980SC imported into the US?

My stereo died and to keep my collector plates / insurance I need to have an era appropriate radio in the car. Any idea what actually came in a 1980 SC imported into the US? I dont think it had a digital readout at that age...still probably analogue tuning front face? Thoughts or pics appreciated.

Can't you leave the broken head unit and just stick a new unit in your glove box? That way you retain the original look, but the real stereo is modern and sounds a lot better.

Do you know all the options that were originally installed in your Porsche? Depending on these, they may hold the answer. My '83 came with a Blaupunkt Monterey SQR22, which was a "digital" (for the time) receiver. It has an option code; see my car's Pelican profile for the number.

Also, I recollect that Blaupunkt Koln radios were for ROW models and Monterey radios were for US models, although they are essentially the same, minus the location of the fader control (on the unit itself vs. On the center console, respectively).

Hey Graham,

Call the Special Insurance underwriting department at ICBC. Ask to speak with Sharon (she is absolutely awesome!)

This is a good opportunity to do an "upgrade". There are some fantastic Vintage Alpine and Nakamichi units that you could add if you wanted to go that route. Alternatively Saab offered a number of high end Balupunkt and Alpine units in their Early-Mid 1980s cars that would work well with the interior originality if you care about that.

Hope this helps a bit.

not really; the above list of year by year radios, while helpful, is simply incomplete, especially for US models. Also, an '85 US would have a Monterey SQR23, not the earlier SQR22 from the late SC years. The difference? The 23 has a cassette end of track search feature.

Forza:
That what I was so awkwardly trying to say. I *know* the Monterrey was original fitment for my 85 Carrera, but also that my Carrera was a US-model. Yes indeed, it was equipped with casette feature. My point was that twistoffat's model listings are likely correct for Euro models....but not universally correct for all markets, and certainly not correct for USA models.

My 78 SC came with a Blaupunkt CR-3001 stereo AM-FM-cassette player. It has a separate amplifier stowed under the passenger floorboard and an automatic antenna. I'm pretty sure it was the original radio.
