Show Me Your MSD Setup!!
Hi Everyone -
I'm installing a new MSD box and I'm wondering what the best mounting location is. Wayne's book says to try and mount it where the old box was, but there's just no room there for this monster MSD box. If I move the box to any other location I run out of wire for the battery ground. I also have to use the Tach Adapter. I was thinking of mounting that where the old box used to be and mounting the MSD box directly in the middle of the firewall between the shock towers. Please post pics of your MSD setup so I can get a better idea of where to mount. Thanks in advance! |

Mine fit in the stock location just fine.

It will fit fine in the old spot if you remove the rear defroster relay and place it under the electrical console.

Looks great!

SCrescue -
Did you mount the box directly on the frame rail or on the firewall? If on the curved frame rail between the shock towers, how did you do it? Thanks! |

Any more pictures with the twin plug setup? I'm adding the the twin plug dist in the next few months. I currently have one MSD/coil running one set of plugs and the other plugs are just waiting for the new dist.

Not the best photo, but mines on the left. Same location as the old one except mounted horizontally. The plastic tray cover covered about 1/2 the MSD so I cut it down to where the whole thing is exposed. I think it looks better.
You might not need the tach adaptor. There is a wire that comes from the old unit and I think it is purple and black. Don't remember for sure ,but one of these other guys should know. Put a female spade connector on that and it plugs directly into the end of the MSD unit. It worked for me, but don't know about your set up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1284599395.jpg |
MSD 6A Mounting............
Here is what I did:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1284600365.jpgThe alternator has an internal regulator and I rotated the rear window relay 90 degrees so that it lays flat. That left plenty of room for the MSD unit. I put male spade terminals on the MSD wires and simply plugged them into the 6 wire master plug. That way, If I ever decide to go back to the Bosch unit, it will simply plug in as before. Hope this helps. |
