Ignition Question related to Andial Splitter

Hey all,

I'm currently running a 964/993 twin plug distributor on my '87 Carrera w/ the stock Montronic ECU & an Andial Splitter. I'm looking into using a J&S Safeguard knock control system. Safeguard taps into the feed running to the ignition coils and retards timing as necessary. Should Safeguard be installed between the ECU and the Andial splitter, or between the splitter and the ignition coils?

I posed this question to John at J&S, and he said:

If the Andial box actually has two ignition transistors, then the unit would install between the ECU and the Andial box

So, my question is, does the Andial Splitter have two ignition transistors? John has a version to handle a single ignition transistor and another to handle 2 transistors. For reference, here's a picture of the Andial Splitter installed next to the Montronic box:

Thanks in advance!

Mine was installed on my 930 motor a week or so ago. Very happy with it.

Andy, you posted the wrong picture, the lid is still on the Andial splitter in that photograph!

Seriously, if no-one knows off-hand, it should be fairly straight forward to identify (and count) the transistors in the box.

Spuggy, thanks for the reply. Incidentally, I sent you an email yesterday via the Pelican board regarding Safeguard.

Sorry about the pic! That was the best I could find after doing a search on the forums. My car is all packed up right now, so it'd be tough to access the Splitter. I sent the picture to John, and he confirmed that two components with the Bosch label are ignition modules. The Safeguard should be installed between the ECU and the splitter.

Ah, right. So many email accounts, so little time...

Good to know! I'll reply to your email off-list, I do plan to write up my experiences with the Safeguard (which performed flawlessly) for the benefit of other folks on the board when I've addressed some other issues we noticed on the dyno and we can really exercise it.
