I am curious how the M&K "R" type 2in/2out muffler does compared to other options; specifically, a stock banana, a 2in/2out Dansk or similar, and most importantly to me -- open megaphones.
I tried searching existing threads, but didn't see anything obvious. I suppose I could dyno my own car to get the answer, but that would take some time and effort I can't easily squeeze-in right now. ![]() Thanks,

LOL, well, no other answers thus far so I may just have to embark on my own tests. I have been changing so much stuff on the car (as usual) that I do need to get it weighed and dyno'ed sooner or later anyway.

I think there was a test done a few years back by some guys over on the earlyS site comparing the stock bannana to a sport and then an aftermarket. I don't think M&K was used for this. IIRC the dual out offered a bit more power over 6k but the stock unit had more mid torque. End result was for a street car, the stock muff was considered best.
I've demoed a few of Ben's early generation mufflers. The dual in dual out seemed to offer a bit more in the higher RPMs based on my butt dyno. Hope this helps

Thanks Joe. I have tried a lot of mufflers over the years. My current application is for a primarily track-oriented 914-6 with a hotrod twin-plugged 2.7, Weber 46's, headers, etc.
The M&K "R" is definitely my favorite overall option for something that is at all streetable, which it is, at least with one pipe capped. I prefer to not swap back and forth for track events but if open pipes (where allowed) will get me significantly more top-end power, then I'll do it. I also have a Dansk 2in/2out sport muffler and some M&K 'shorties' (megaphones with baffling) here, so if I ever do some dyno time, I will have some different configurations to test.

I have dynoed the M&K R muffler, but every time I put my car on the rollers, more than one change to the set up has been made...
So I can't say what improvement the M&K makes over stock etc.. It sure does sound nice at full tilt though
