You need to appreciate how difficult it gets to find time. For example, per evo magazine's lap tests, 4% faster takes you from a BMW M3 (1:25.9 lap) to past a:
997 turbo
997 GT3
997 GT2
Carrara GT
Lamborghini Gallardo 560-4
Mercielago 640...
Most of those have not only 40% more power but often weigh less, have much wider rubber, and are clearly full on supercars from another class. All are well faster than the M3, but none can manage 4% faster.

4% faster is a lot at the track. Roughly 50 car lengths past start finish? Not even close.
