Hi Glenn, honeslty that plating does not look good. At least my CAD plating was very shiny.

Great to see progress, I have been folloving your endeavour.... :-)

I am so delinquent in my updates. Sorry guys.

So since my last update, I've made some good progress.

Oil cooler duct is in.



I repainted much of the body, finished painting the rest of the bolt-on bits and have decided that the remaining (and new) imperfections in my paint are not enough to hold me up anymore. So I declared my painting done, tore down the makeshift paint booth and have set my sights on the interior.

Tonight, I began preparing to install the headliner.

First to replace the foam filter in the vents above the rear window I used a length of air conditioning weather seal.





I cut the length a couple inches longer than needed to insure a good seal at the ends.



Starting in the middle I flattened the foam against the roof and slide it in, careful not to let it twist. If you do it right, it fills the space perfectly.



At the ends, push the extra in as neatly as possible.



And from the outside...



Yes, I know, I sill have to sand out the orange peel on the roof.

Once to foam was in, I installed the sound and heat insulation on the roof. I am using Second Skin products. In the last post, you can see the Damplifier I placed to dampen panel vibration. According to NineBall, you do not need total coverage just 25-40%.

On top of that goes a second layer. This time I used their Heatwave product. It is a fiber sound insulation sandwiched between foil. This layer should keep the noise down and provide heat insulation too.

For the install, I cut a piece slightly larger than needed and attached it to the roof with spray on adhesive.



I started with a 18" wide band of adhesive down the middle, leaving the ends and edges free. Spray both the roof and the insulation, wait a minute for it to tack then press in place.



Then I worked my way around the edges, trimming and gluing as I went. For this layer of insulation, you want total coverage. So I cut it such that I could tuck the insulation behind the metal where the roof meets the windows. I did cut a 1 inch gap at the rear vents to maintain that functionality.

Once done, i installed the headliner bows to test the fit.



Feeling pretty good right about now.

Another good day.

I was able to get the headliner in, stretched tight as a drum and the front and rear glued. Tomorrow, I'll finish gluing.

this was before final tightening. There are no wrinkles left.

Good weekend.

Headliner is in. Still need to do the A and B pillars.

Got the trunk all cleaned up and returned the headlight wiring harnesses to their original routing.

Replaced the fuel tank vent lines.

Flipped the wipers and they are ready for install. Reattached the engine pad.

Painted the engine lid latch to cover the ugly cadmium plating.

Fabricated grills for the engine lid.

And collected a pile of stuff to take to the powder coater.

Tomorrow, I'll call and check on the progress of my seat and dash upholstery.

Good news and not so good news

First the not so good....

The parts I planned to powder coat took a detour... to see what it would take to re-anodize them. The not so bad news is that it would take more time, effort and money than I am willing to invest. Back to plan "A", powder coat.

And the good news...

I was finally able to pick up my recovered dash. Beautiful job and no seems. Here is a picture but it doesn't do it justice.



Long weekend coming up. I hope to make good progress.

Morning Greg. It was done by John Carey Automotive Upholstery in Bridgeville. He is still working on my seats. Can't wait to see how they come out.

I've been making progress this weekend. I got wiper system installed and the A and B pillars done. I repaired the dash attachment points and got it installed. And did a little color sanding on the front fenders.



Now I'm in the middle of rebuilding and installing the ventilation system.

Nice three day weekend for me! Great weather and a bunch of progress made.

Front fenders, bumper and valance are on. I had to adjust the mounts for the oil cool from where I thought it should have been. So that slowed me down but the oil cooler now lines up nicely with the opening in the valance.

I got the ventilation system reinstalled, including a new drain hose from the fresh air intake.

Cleaned the transmission and replaced the gaskets on the nose and shift fork that had been leaking. Mated the engine and transmission and got them bolted in the car. I still have to make all the connections. But that is a big milestone, freed up some room in the garage and answered a really big question.....

Ever since I rebuilt the suspension, I have been wondering how well I did at hitting my target ride height. Now that the front fenders are on and the engine and transmission are back in, I could get a rough measurement.

Target is 25 1/2" to the front fender lip and 25" at the rear. And today the measurements were... drum roll please....

25 1/2" front and 25 3/4" rear! A little high in the back but not too bad. I still have to install the glass, interior, and a couple body panels, etc. so I expect it to drop a bit more. So I'm happy with how it sits for now.

Time to celebrate.
