82 sc

noticed my recently aquired 82 sc one side 1/2 inch higher than the other, looking at fenders, is this a big deal worth having looked at, kind of gets on my nerves i know its there, also, this may be a stupid question, noticed when i had my lights on, the rear light or reflector thing that has porsche written on it does not light up is it supposed to or just a reflector, looked for a bulb could not see one

thanks

Most properly corner balanced/aligned 911s will sit a bit higher on one side.

Typically, this will be the driver's side as your weight will bring the car down to even or very close. Have a friend watch the car as you enter and it'll make sense.

No, the "PORSCHE" reflector does not light up.

Welcome to Pelican.

Was the PO much bigger/heavier than you? If the difference is great, I would suggest having the car corner balanced and aligned with your weight in the driver's seat.

FWIW, I am finding out how important corner balancing is. I am doing some alignment and balancing work on my own. At one point, I had the car aligned only to find the corner balance was off. Not off by a LOT, but off by something like eighty pounds. Made a HUGE difference. The car pulled to the right and simply did not handle well. At this point in my education, I would prefer a car that is corner balanced and poorly aligned.......over a car that is aligned but poorly corner balanced.

Like SUPE stated, a properly corner balanced 911 is a treat to drive, on the track or street.

If you are happy with the car then leave it alone. Again, I would consider the weight difference between you and the PO and let that help you decide on whether it needs to be corner balanced again.

Think about going into a corner (or making a panic maneuver on the street), having 50 +- lbs. difference might cause the lighter wheel to lock, not a good situation. Very important with 4-wheel independent suspension.
