Post Excellent Excellence

If you don't get this mag the September issue is worth the cover cost.

- Superchaging the 3.6, TurboPerformances Eaton blower revisited.

- A pair of modified SC's, these guys have WAY more money than brains. Story of a couple of 30 somethings, one has $60K the other $70K in their SCs. BOTH still have the CIS 3.0L!!!! Good therapy for all of us who feel guilty for spending more money than a cars worth.

- Tech Notes, engine rebuilding terminology. Good pix, diagrams, and dialogue.

- Classifieds, for something really different you can have a 911 widebody cab with an LT1 V8. Asking price $40K.

A little something for everyone in this issue.

Hey, I just posted a similar topic! I agree, it is a good article. It didn't sound like all the bugs were worked out on that supercharger if you read between the lines, mostly the attempts to make it emissions friendly. Still waiting for a 3.2 version. I actually emailed these guys and said I would volunteer my car for a test version. They returned with word that it is still in development.

I liked the look of the 930S wheel. Anybody put one on a SC? Is the diameter the same as the SC unit? My wheel is looking a little old.

I love that magazine. Why isn't there more Porsche enthusiast coverage? I think there's lots of folks like us out there who would love a good, techically focused magazine with loads of great photos. Doesn't look like Excellence is hurting for advertisers, either.

I got one of those (on Jack Olsen's recommendation) a month or so ago when I broke the welds on my standard 3-spoke. It's slightly smaller in diameter, but very nice. A friend's got my digital camera or I'd post a picture.

Here's a photo of the 930S Wheel from AJ USA in my '87 Carrera:

Wheel diameter is about 360mm. Drop me a note if you have any questions.

On Jack Olsen's recommendation, I also put the 930S wheel on my SC. Very good product that looks factory, unlike some other popular wheels. Just make sure AJ-USA knows what car you are installing the wheel on so they can supply the correct hub adapter.

And re: Excellence. I put the World on hold as soon as it arrives in the mailbox. Can't wait to read the articles about the blower.

Jack -
Are those leather Recaro seats? How do you like them? I've been thinking of upgrading the seats in my SC.

I also have one of these wheels, but in my Cup car. The covering's different, though. I love it.

Everyone with the smaller steering wheels... a question?

How is your view of the gauges with these wheels? I want to be able to at least see part of my speedo and the oil press/temp gauges and wondered if these steering wheels block your view?

TIA,

Joe

Bruce,

Those are leather Corbeau Targa RS seats, and I like them a lot, but they were a pain in the neck to install and get to work right. Namely, they sat about an inch higher than the (not stock) Recaro's I used to have in there, so I had to modify the mounting brackets to drop them down enough for my helmet to fit. Also, the seats didn't allow me to sit as 'deeply' as I wanted (they're a street-race compromise), so I had to shave about an inch of padding out of the lower section. Finally, I had an upholstery guy put a sleeve and a leather grommet in the seat section (no pictures, yet) for the submariner belt to pass through.

The Corbeaus are good seats, and I got a very good price on this set in leather. They also have a model called the Carrera and one called the A4. I'd suggest you try them all out before you make a decision.

Joe, the smaller diameter wheel does reduce your speedometer gauge visibility. It's the one tradeoff of the competition-style wheels. I've rotated my gauges, so it's not a problem.
