Drilled out broken exhaust studs today!
Using the stud drilling jig from A Quiet Boom, I successfully drilled out two exhaust studs that had been frustrating my header to heat exchanger swap on my '82SC. After drilling an oiled tap was all that was needed to clean up the threads. This is a great tool to have on hand when working on your exhaust!

I feel so lucky. When I took apart my engine, I did the exhaust studs completely dry. Whatever nuts didn't come out, the whole stud did instead. In my case it didn't matter if one had broken since the heads were going out any way.

Yesterday I installed M&K's bypass pipe (a beautiful stainless piece that cost less then the competition's mild steel offering!) and an M&K one in one out muffler. Sounds terrrific, and with heat exchangers back on (the car came with headers that were rusted out) I should have warmer winter driving.

exhaust stud removal
This is my next project. Can you post pictures including the stud drilling jig?
Was cost the main reason you chose M&K? Thanks. |
