Spark plug wires

I want to buy new spark plug wires for my 1981 911sc. There are so many to choose from. I would appreciate everyone's comments that would help me pick a set. What's the best? Cost not too important. The only thing I really want is for them to be Red in color.

Thanks in advance..........john

I have the Fyrebraid wires from Performance Products, they are red and are very good wires. The stock wires are also good as are the Magnacores, the fyrebraids are the reddest.

I have original(I think) wires on my SC, why are they braided? If this is necessary, why did they discontinue this practice? I have read posts from people who replaced w/ non-braided, so I'm sure it's OK, but still this has been driving me nuts. Anyone?

The CIS cars had a problem where a backfire, usually on a cold start would split the air box(ask me how I know about this particular issue). It was thought that an ignition crossfire was the source of the problem. An early attempt at a fix was the ss sheath over the ignition HT leads. The flapper which many people retrofitted their air box with was an additional attempt to save the air box($$$) by providing a vent to atmosphere in the event of an intake tract explosion. Other putative causes of this problem were cracked intake tract sleeves/gaskets and leaking cold start injectors. The CIS was continually improved until 84 when it was replaced by DME. I have never heard of a corresponding problem with the motronic DME fi.

Bill didn't mention it, but the braided wires are also intended to reduce RFI. (Note that the engine compartment lid has a grounding braid for the same reason.)
