Is anyone aware of a chart that identifies the range of tire widths that can be used with a given wheel width?
Specifically, I'm wondering if I can use a 225mm tire (225-45-17) on a 9" wheel. I checked tirerack.com but came up empty. Update. . .just checked tire specs and interestingly the range for the Bridgestone RE730 is 7-8.5" but for the S01 it is 7-9". Why the difference? Thanks, Mike 94 C2 cab [This message has been edited by Mike Feinstein (edited 07-03-2001).] |

I don't think there is one chart that will answer that question. It's different for each tire model. I've been able to find that information by going to the manufacturers website and getting fitment data for a specific model and size.

That should fit just fine.
Tire/wheel charts are just a guideline. Actual physical tire sizes vary widely between manufacturers. Wheel sizes can vary a bit as well. Generally you don't have to get into precise math until the calculated sidewall hieght falls below 4 inches. Your 225/45-17 is theoretically 8.86" wide by 24.97" tall with a sidewall of 3.99". An advertised 9" wheel is generally 9.5" wide from outer bead to bead. This will pull the sidewall out 1/3" per side. I think that would look and perform well. |

Hello
The maximal rime sizes are given by the tire construction. Tires dont like to be pulled on to wide rims. If anything goes wrong the manufactorer will blame you or the one who mountet them. Just keep an eye on the firestone story. Grüsse |

Thought I'd try and post a picture (first time). This is a 225-45-17 S02 on a 9" supercup rim.

For some reason the chart indicates that the S-02 can be used on a 7" to 9" rim but the RE730 as 7" to 8.5". Not sure why. Think I'll stick with recommended sizes for my rims. Anyone need a nice pair of tires?
