i have pulled the engine on my 70' 911t and going to rebuild it soon. poeple say that E cams make a good hop up performance part for these cars. can you get T cams ground to E specs? if so is it cheaper than buying E cams? if i do buy E cams what sould a desent set cost? if you know the answer to any of these questions please let me know.

New E-cams $625 from dealer. That is only a start on what you should do. In for a nickel, in for a dime. Yes/no?? How much $$$$$$$$$ you have to spend??

price really isn't much of an issue but i don't want to spend a ton of money. is it ok to buy used cams or is it risky and worth spending alittle more to buy new ones? i know there are more things you do along with it. i have purchased a 2.4L crank. do i need to do anything to the pistons? there T pistons.

Did you consider a good used 3.2 and trans.?? could be cheaper and would turn that 911 into a "mean machine"

If you are going to tear down the complete motor, it does make sense to ask the question: Wouldn't it be cheaper to just replace the motor with a later model? Motors from 3.0SC's can be had for relatively little money ($2000 - $3000) on EBay, especially compared with paying for a rebuild.
If you have considered that and decided that it is not for you there is another option. Just do a "Top End" rebuild and don't crack the case if you don't have to. This would still allow you to replace the pistons with "S" pistons or maybe something from Andial or JEB. Using "E" cams would work with either of those. I'm sure the list of things to change in the process (Such as the distributor settings) will grow as you go forward. What did they say earlier? In for a penny, in for a pound? Personally, I love the "E" motor in my car since it easily pulls right around to 7K. It never fails to bring a ![]() That's just my $.02. Either way it sounds like you'll have fun.

2.2T pistons have about the same dome as 2.4E pistons. Since you are changing the crank to a 2.4 crank, you will essentially end up with a 2.4E engine with slightly higher compression. I would change to E cams ($300 used) and an E dizzy ($250 used), updated tensioners ($400) and a 2.4E mfi set up or carbs. I'm sure I missed some things, but this will get your shopping list started!

I forgot to mention, if you don't have BA's performance handbook, GET IT!! Under the 2.4 engine mods he explains how to check the piston/valve clearance for 2.2 pistons on a 2.4 crank. You might also have a problem with piston skirts hitting the main bearing web. Also in BA's book, same chapter!
