So there are a few threads on fixing this broken spring retainer which I heard break while drving earlier this summer.

Found this on my left rear floor mat - any guesses?

Part found inside driver door - What is it?

But I'm not clear on how to get the regulator out to do the repair. Do I lower the glass or keep it up? Bentley says lower it half way then raise it by hand and tape it up....thats a challenge with a Targa door?

I'd suggest half-way. The targa has no trailing guide making the window somewhat unstable above the halfway point. maybe use a block of wood too in case the tape gives way

Hi:

That is a pivot pin. They come in 4 flavors and you will need to look at your to figure out which one you will need.

You will need to remove the door card and regulator to figure out what you need to do.

It is not hard (I have done both of mine).

This article tells you how to remove the door card:
Pelican Technical Article: 911 door panel remove

This article tells you how to remove your window regulator:
Pelican Technical Article: 911 Window Regulator Replacement

Some Threads on Pivot Pins:

Argh!!! Window Regulator Frustration

Part found inside driver door - What is it?

There are lots more as well if you do a search.

Like I said, I have done both of mine. Just tape the window to the door top and the vent window.

Funny how many times this same part is found within a door. I already knew from the thread title what it was going to be.

Ok...got it fixed.

Removing the regulator is like a ball joint ... why was that so hard. I ended up removing the power window motor to get it out...couldn't see any other way.

Here's the replacement bolt (with a low profile flat head and square shaft) that I stalled to hold the spring in place of the failed aluminum piece.

Interesting. Usually it is the pin in the middle that fails.

Garage
Apologies to Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, in the garage, weak and weary,
Pond'ring Porsche projects that I should have done before,
Then I spotted, unexpected - suddenly my eyes detected,
A tiny part unwitting, simply sitting in my Targa door.
`'Tis a pivot pin,' I muttered, `sitting in my Targa door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Glad you got it reassembled

yeah, Harry, I think you and talked alittle about this once before -the little white-metal pin is swaged/pressed into the regulator and not available as a separate part - and has a much smaller profile than the center (what I was calling the pivot) pin.

grahamkissack - nice work!
