This sucks.

My daughter and I took the 911 out for a drive today and picked up this huuuuge freakin' bolt in the PS rear tire. Luckily, we had just arrived at our destination. I think I picked it up literally as I pulled into the store's drive.

The camera phone pic is garbage but there was about 1.5 inches sticking out of the tire. I cut that section off and hoped that I could get the car home the 8 miles but it went flat soon after driving. The FAF tried it's best but couldn't hack it.

My FIL came to the rescue with his car trailer but the tire is junk, I believe.

Hopefully, I can get a 245/45 Sumitomo from somewhere.

You can plug that. Get a tire plug kit you'll be allright.

Take it to a good tire shop, they can patch it from the inside.

Thanks for the encouraging news, guys.

I'm concerned about the sidewall as well. I drove on it flat for about 1/4 mile, maybe less. I needed to get off a main road to a safe area.

I'll drop it off at my local tire shop and see what they tell me.

Y'know, there's a product that the offroaders swear by - it's called a Safety Seal kit. Absolutely works like a charm. I once used this product to fix a rock cut in a sidewall, way the hell off in the boondocks, after we'd already cut one tire on a rock and so no had a spare. Here's the link. This product really does work and most likely would fix this tire. And no, I have no affiliation or interest at all.

A plug kit has two tee handles and a sheaf of plugs. The t-handle reamer cleans up the hole, the t-handle hook slips in the plug....a little dab of glue on the plug prior to the plunge, wait 5 minutes and you can inflate.

Any Manny, Moe, and/or Julio's will have the stuff. Cost of the kit is less than 15 bucks...or it was.

I've been using a product called SLIME in all my ATV's and dirt bikes for years,it's supposed to seal up to 1/4 inch holes ...
Although i don't use it in my street vehicles i carry a SLIME repair kit in the car which consists of a 16oz bottle of slime and a compact air compressor.
Most bike shops carry the product !

My 2 penneth worth, but to plug a hole in a tyre on a car that you rag rotten most times you take it out!?? Courting with disaster methinks... Swallow the cost and get a new boot IMHO......

fix it & you will have a spare tire -- it will lose any speed rating it has (& I would not run it hard like a Porsche should be driven)

how much tread is on the others?

what are you using for a spare?

The speed rating/safety factor is why I considered it useless. I'm actively looking for a new tire and this will become a backup.
The other 3 are in great shape or I would buy 4 new.

+1 on Wildcat077 comments - Over here in Europe you can get tire foam/mousse.

Screw the tube onto the tire valve, turn the valve on the canister, it inflates the tire and fills it with mousse - Puncture fixed.

Of course i'm refering to a quick fix in order to get you home ...
I would never keep a tire with a 1/4 inch puncture,wether it be on my car,truck or trailer !
Although it's nice to have a "repair in a can" option when you're stuck

Exactly Phil, its a real quick get you home solution, must be good because new Ferrari's and Lambo's dont even have a spare wheel in Europe you just get a mousse canister in a fetching leather pouch!
