Turn Singals and Left side running lights not working
1979 911 SC all lights worked 2 years ago before engine rebuild.
The left side driving lights and both side turn signals are not working. I have taken out the engine and trans and put them back in. I replaced the gas tank and front tank support. New rear Shocks, new ignition switch, new turn signal switch and wiper switch. The emergency flashers work, the headlights low and high beam work as does the right side driving lights. The bulbs on the left side are all good and I've replaced the fuses. What have I disrupted to knock out these lights. Dog |

Check the various ground locations. I can't think of anything else right now, though.
I think you will need to do some reading(too much info to try to re-type.) Blinker problem - 1982 SC help, help electrical problem. tried search

you probably disrupted your engine hood lamp. A short to it, or when the switch itself is bad, causes the issue you described.

Well you hit part of the problem right on the head. The previous owner cut a lot of connections on items that didn't work. The engine hood light is missing and the wires were tucked into the hood. The power wire had had electrical tape wrapped around it, as I said it use to have... The running lights are all working, now on to the flashers, with the emergency flashers working I have to assume the grounds are good. dog |

That sounds like a real PIA problem the PO left you but at least you are making progress.

Kidrock may be on to the problem. + engine hood light/wires can definitely cause your problems. I chased turn signal problems for days before I pinned it down to the engine compartment light.

I guess you could tackle it with 1 of 2 ways:
1) purchase new switch (kinda spendy $$$) and wire it in correctly, or 2) bypass switch completely by wiring the hot stuff together and finding a good, clean ground in the vicinity of where the switch once was. Keep us posted....I still think your problems lay in that particular area. FWIW, you may want to check and clean your ground stack at intake #1 (if SC's have that location)

I already replaced the signal column switch. In the exterior lights schematic what is the structure that is represented by the rectangle in the upper left top that has Hazard Flasher notation. It has contacts # 49 48A L R and 31 ? dog |

I think the previous posts are right-on!
Here's another schematic from my factory manual. Good luck, Gerry ![]()

What structure is represented by the Rectangle in the top left of the Exterior Lights Electrical Diagram shown above (below the Fuse Box for fuses #17 and 11)? I know where the 4 contacts for the Flasher relay are but where are contacts # 30, 15, 49, L, R, 49A, 58 and 31 physically located?
