1971 911E with 13,959 miles. Hmmmmm ... An interesting - to say the least - write-up by the seller on this one

That is one of the best ones yet.
Notice how he is very careful to not SPECIFICALLY represent that the car actually only has 13,000 miles. He only says that in 1992 some guy signed the title saying it only had 9,000 actual miles (that means nothing, he probably forgot to check the box that says "miles not actual"), and that now, the odometer reads 13,900. Of course, that doesn't mean much on a 5 digit odometer. Of course, the idea that that car has only traveled 13,900 miles is absurd. The seats are totally worn. It looks like even the floorboards are worn out! I think 113,900 miles would be optimistic for that car based on its condition, I think 213,900 is more accurate. |

14,000 miles, but he acknowledges that the odometer has been tampered with. It needs paint and an interior, at least, which is another seven or eight grand. Throw on some mechanical work, and you're upside down with the thing.
Not that there's anything wrong with that . But if your goal is a low-mileage original car, this one has an awful lot of 'patina' for one with such a ballsy mileage claim. ------------------ Jack Olsen My Rennlist home page • My Pelican Gallery page • My Porsche Owners Gallery page [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 07-07-2001).] |

LOL! I couldn't get past the "infinitely fun sportomatic" phrase. Maybe this car has the "exciting and stimulating" hydropneumatic struts as well? Seller didn't mention the suspension. If so, add more $$$$.

Even giving him the benefit of the doubt and adding "a couple of thousand miles" on to it, we're now up to 16,000. That's only 8 to 10 hours of driving per year!!! So how did the engine compartment and the seats (and the paint) wind up in such poor condition?

Hello
nice trailer hook ditch in the hood. Saler didn´t make homework or inestet any time to proof hearsay. Wouldn´t the history show up in a carfax run ? Police reports ? Insurance papers ? California Classix had filled that up with a nice picture from the first owner. Turning back the odometer is not working on Porsche, you can only turn them forward or have them to open. Now with a electric drill and a old speedo cable you need several hours. So someone spend time on it by using the drill or open the speedo. Any bills ? And the car looks more like someone spend very much time using the engine to spin the speedo over the 00000 mark. Well if I would be interested I would call Mr or Mrs Beal personaly about the car. Isn´t hard to track them down. Myxbe you don´t get any usefull information but you will find out if the car was cared or used as a trash box. Maybe it was one form 10 other Porsches and replaced by a new one after it "disapeared". But thats still some 7-8 years presence. The Niveaumats and Sporto make the car even more desirable for a collector. I think 6-8000 $ are fair wounder where the reserve is. Grüsse |
