My 3.6 doesn't drive very smoothly.
So I have now got my 3.6 on the road. Yay!
It was running terribly to start with, but I sorted a big airleak, connected an injector plug I had missed off and got it running on 5, the engine had been sat for a while and unplugging number 6 injector made no difference, so I took the injectors in for a service, one had not been opening, a gentle whack with a hammer and it unstuck, they have been ultrasonic cleaned, new seals, pintle caps and filter baskets and back in. Now the engine runs very smooth and pulls the car very well indeed! The engine is very smooth, sounds spot on, but I get a lot of shunting from the transmission on light throttle loads. It clears of you go up or down a gear, clears if you plant the throttle, but you cant just trickle along at under 2k rpm as the car get really jerky, shunting back and forth, I guess here in the UK we'd call it Kangeroo'ing. I've got the Patrick Mo'sports flywheel and an aluminium Sachs clutch, is this lightened assembly part of the cause? Would a MDE remap sort this out? The throttle does not fully close, the only spring in from the pedal to the throttle body is the one on the throttle body itself, I had a helper spring but it was hooked onto the throttle lever on the body one end and the car body on the other, I suspected engine movement might be causing the jerkyness, but I removed the extra spring and its still there. Its almost as if I need to add some damping to the throttle, but of course I need it to snap shut quick when I left off. I added and inch to the throttle linkage bell crank on the transmission and made up a cable. Thats somewhat typical for these conversions due to the light flywheel.
Remapping the DME will help, but not eliminate the issue.

Thanks, I wondered about that. I'd try to add some damping to the cable but I dont see how to do that without making the throttle slow to shut which wouldnt be any good.

You say the engine is running well? If not have you checked the engine wiring harness. If your 3.6 is a 1995 and you have an intermitant problem w/ missing and or loss of power you might want to check the harness.
I have a Patrick Motorsports Centerforce flywheel and Sacks clutch w/ no problems. I did have to replace the engine wiring harness after a an intermitant loss of power. |

Just for the sake of completness I'd thought I'd update.
I had a break down, car had been out in the rain all day, I think the aftermarket airfilter got soaking wet. Chronic misfire to the point I came to a stop with it popping and banging but not enough power to drive. On the motorway. In the dark. Pouring rain. Rush hour. Joy. AA brought me home. I found quite a big fuel leak from the top of number 1 injector, so fitted a new o ring. Made a rain cover for the air filter. ![]() Now runs perfectly, the chronic low speed shunting has gone, can now trickle along at just over idle no bother. And its mucho rapido! A successful 993 motor in a SC conversion completed.
