Carrera 3.2 High Idle Issues

My 85 stock Carrera 3.2 is idling when hot at or above 2k rpms. I cleaned the Idle Control Valve with Carb cleaner and gave it a good shake. It sounds like a paint can with the rattle so I think it's good. What is my next step on resolving this issue?

The switch for the ICV should activate when the throttle closes. It is behind the throttle body and you can hear it click as the throttle closes, engine off.

Best check the switch operation at the output with a meter.

You might want to clean and lube the throttle linkage where it mates to the gearbox under the car...
That area is exposed to high heat and the linkage needs to be kept well cleaned and lubeb in order for it not to bind and make the pedal "stick" and cause the engine to run at a higher than wanted RPM !

Just something else to look at ...

Cheers !

Did the high idle issue start recently? Did you do any recent maintenance or repairs to the motor? Is the high idle consistently high, or does the idle jump up and down?

Wildcat077 could be on the money on this one....

It has been in storage for the past couple months. It had a normal idle when put away. This is about the third day of driving it and it is still up in the 2k. It consistently is up in the 2k department. I'll look into both troubleshooting ideas and report back.

it was the throttle linkage, right? Love to hear success stories, especially the ones where it was a 5 minute fix for zero dollars.
