Ed-
Nice looking car. What size rims and tires are you running and what is your fender height? Trying to work out a tire and rim combo. Thanks

'77 c 3.0
These are moderately unique cars, though here in the US they don't seem to command the premium they get overseas, especially compared to the lesser US '74-77 Carrera 2.7CIS.
Rick Cabell is primarily responsible for mine. He originally imported it in '84 and got it federalized, sold it and then repurchased it in 2001. He then started a multi-year freshening, whereby he repainted it, installed an RS carpet kit and deleted some insulation, and rebuilt the engine to 3.0RS-MFI specs. That is the way Porsche should have built this car originally, although the 3.0CIS was also a nice configuration. This car never had a sunroof or A/C, but has the factory sport seats, LSD and whale-tail. Consequently relatively light at 2,425 pounds with 3/4 tank but no driver. Would love to touch base with the owners of the two continental orange cars here in the US. John, you've done a great job with that car. Best of luck to you on the sale. Bob ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Great responses guys, some very interesting cars coming through.
John, sorry to hear you're selling your car - end of an era. Bjorn, the pictures of your car are great, especially the one that appears to be at a circuit. What circuit is it? Also, the Alfa Montreal and 911 appear to have been sitting there quite some time - a "barn find" in the offing?

Thanks! The circuit is Zwartkops, in the West of Pretoria, South Africa. The Alfa and 911 were parked just outside an ex-Porsche workshop. No idea who they belonged to. The 911 drew my attention, but on closer inspection, seemed to require quite a bit of work. The car was gone by the time I visited Zwartkops again, so I'm sure someone has a nice project on their hands.

Hello EmeraldE , I see your car has the holes in the engine bay rain channels for rubber bumpers. And a piece on the passenger side rear decklid hinge for a 2nd shock on that side. So I'm assuming this was a Carrera 3.0 originally ordered with front & rear spoilers. Could you check something for me. Look on the passenger side engine firewall , And see if the bracket (tabs) are spot welded there to attach the other end of the passenger side decklid/whaletail shock ? If so , maybe post a photo ? I see the shock is not installed on that side. Thx much |

Ratbox, thanks for the post. I'm an early 911 guy, never had a tail before and didn't realize those holes were factory - that's good information to have. Are the rubber bumpers still available?
I'll check on the lid shock brackets this weekend and post a picture. Thanks again. Bob |

EmeraldE ,
I checked for you. Those rubber bumpers are still available at the dealer , and in stock in U.S currently . One dollar each Part No. 999.703.013.50. If you take any photos regarding your tail and that shock bracket. Could you take a coupe of up inside the cavity of the whaletail. I would like to see the type of fiberglass used in 1977. They varied as time went along. Thx |

EmeraldE,
Did you check to see if your had the passenger side shock and brackets/ tabs on your 1977 Carrera 3.0 ? From looking again a second time at your photo , it does not look like your have it , I just want to make sure. Also would you mind giving out your Chassis number , I was going to have someone I know , who has access to the records, check just to make sure it was originally built with spoilers (M473) originally. I am trying to figure out some associated pieces that might come with rear spoilers . And from your car (and looking hard at the parts books) , I think the second shock only comes with A/C. Thx |

Spoiler lid shock bracket
Ratbox, I will post pictures of the shock mount bracket area and inside the spoiler later, I have to be on a different computer - but my car does not have the passenger side mount bracket as you suspected.
The chassis # is 911 760 0588. The COA letter that I have from around 1985 does not mention spoilers, but I also know the COA's can be inaccurate. however, this was originally a German market car, so it very well may have been added after the factory or when imported to the USA in 1984. I'll check with Rick as he was the one who imported and federalized it. I would appreciate anything that you can find out about the car. Will post pictures later today or tomorrow. Best, Bob |

std for C3 in '76 was 6 & 7 x15 w/ 185/70 7 215/60 tires for '77 the above were still std and opt. but there was an additional opt 6 & 7 x16 w/ 205/55 & 225/50 x16 Unfortunately I lost the original fender height measures but on mine w/ 7 & 8, 205/50 & 225/50 x15 only the tips of my shoes would fit under the front lip spoiler

Interesting time capsule. The Aussie story was quite interesting. It would be nice to galavant around Europe on prices like that, today...

Ratbox,
Interesting to find you on this thread. The minerva blue car from above DID have the mounting bracket for the right side extra shock/piston. The spot welds that hold it to the body were weak and over time it came off. Bob, hope you are enjoying the car. It sure looks good. Man, does that car rip! |
