backdate front turn signal question
I searched the threads for something I read somewhere a while ago. No luck so I'll ask. I saw someone weld in some 73 style light box and horn grills onto 74 style fenders. These were not cut from salvage. They were new parts to backdate post 73 fenders. Does anyone know where they are available in steel? Thanks. Or was I dreaming??

If you saw someone weld those pieces on the fender, then that person should be shot. Those are always supposed to be removable and replaceable.
The only new early-style boxes I've seen offered are in fiberglass. However I seem to recall TRE saying they were (or are) working on a better solution. You might check with them. |

thats a very common 'weld job' on backdates if the person knows how to do it. happens all the time.

We have them made for us by a master metal craftsman. Don't be fooled by the simple look of the pieces; its a lot more work than you think. Even after you purchase them from us, you need to have a good metal guy weld them on and do the finish detail work
if the world was full of 69-73 used fenders in good shape, we would not have to go this route We sell them for $800 pair for either RSR or standard widths

However, the OP said the light boxes and horn grills themselves were welded to the fender. That shouldn't happen. |

Absolutely. Let me correct myself. I meant the fender nose that holds the signal light and horn grill.
So any one have an affordable source for these babies?? I'm in no hurry I want to source all the parts before I begin the teardown.

Maybe this is what you have in mind. Pics found here in 2007. Can't remeber who posted them.
Not just a cut and weld job, but a very perceptive interpretation of long nose bumpers on a bellows car. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Milt's old car (recently sold) . Milt custom made these parts himself. He may have the molds, but you need to contact him to see if he has any interest in making more
Neat approach, but its definitely custom
