iPod connect to vintage radio
Guys,
Wanted to connect my iPod to my Blaupunkt radio MY 72. Found this thread at Samba and it works brilliantly! TheSamba.com :: View topic - Step by Step Guide To Making Din to iPod connection Now I only have to pick the right music to complement the sound of my 2.4E. Cheers, Ed

Hmm, 72. How about some Bachman Turner Overdrive or Robin Trower?
Of course this would be on 8 track.

using something like this is much easier. the wired versions don't have the problems that wireless ones do.

Does anyone know a way to use an ipod without using the head unit?

you can run the ipod outs via a 1/8" to rca patch cable directly into most aftermarket amps but it's not a good thing to do. that setup can easily harm an amp due to the output voltage being too high OR too low (dependent on the amp being used). some amps have very low input sensitivity and others require more. it's not impossible, just not something i would suggest doing. if stealth is your goal you can always mount an aftermarket hu in the glovebox or under a seat and connect your ipod to that.

Yes, I have just a 500W 4-channel amp with the RCA inputs to my iphone (or ipad/ipod, ianything). works great and doubles as a hands free phone. There is a blank-off plate where the radio was and the plug runes under the center carpet. A little velcro on the phone and the plate holds it in place.

Do our stock 1972 Blaupunks have a DIN input? How is it controlled?

If that is the case, then what will happen? Burn the amps?

Nine ball, james,
I have 3 amps. 1 amp for subs, and 2 are for front and rear speakers, I assume. In that case, I need to devide the single plug form the ipod to at least 6 RCA. Correct? This system won't be able to tell which channel is which channel. It will just push out the same frequency to all channels. Correct? Does this make the sound bad? Quote:

if the amp needs more input then you will have greatly reduced output from the amp. this usually leads to people cranking up the gains on the amp, which will send a clipped signal to the speaker. this can damage both the amp and the speaker.
if the input it too high for the amp you can easily fry the internals. once the magic smoke is released the amp will no longer work. Quote:
if you are using the hu to control the crossover points then yes, it will feed a full range signal to everything. if the amp has crossovers and they are being used then no. the piece i linked earlier is really the easiest way there is to add an aux-in to any car radio. it goes inline with your antennae directly at the radio and gives you a set of rca style inputs, connect the positive and ground wires and that's it. nothing else to do, nothing else to modify and you can easily take it out and install it in your next car if needed. works with every media player on the planet that has a headphone jack ![]()

RETIRED

Woody's who sells on eBay, remakes vintage radios with modern guts and iPod connectors. They are very reasonable. They will also make a particular model to your specs. I put one in a 58 356 that I re-did.

I use 2 Y connectors and set the gain to balance if you will front to rear. Still have stereo just not adjustable front to rear. That's fine, like to hear the engine most of the time but on long trips music helps.
