Reviving an old thread with a similar question.

The issue with selecting an aero mirror to mount in the same place as the flag mirror is that it HAS TO stick way out to be visible. The mounting point is far forward.

From looking over threads here and elsewhere on Vitalonis, it seems like visibility is mediocre with them at least on one side without a relatively intense R&D process.

Has anyone found anything new that checks all the blocks - not crazy expensive, mounts at the stock flag mirror location, has an aero shape, and has usable visibility on both sides?

A new, improved mounting option for the Vitalonis could be that answer, I suppose.

This has been (and continues to be) a significant part of the challenge when replacing the OEM flags with other style side mirror options.

My SC has been one of the AchtungKraft test mules for quite a few products. The latest 2.0 version mirrors Bryan has come up with offers by far the best visibility compared to the stock flags or Vitaloni Sebrings. The AchtungKraft mirrors have the right compromise of convex (field of view vs depth distortion) to see multiple lanes on the freeway as well as what's immediately beside you, without altering the perceived distance of the cars behind you too greatly.

I'm not a bullet mirror guy so I gave him my Vitaloni's in hopes that he makes a SC bolt-on billet version of the Sebring. Until then I'll enjoy the visability offered by the current model.

Is it me or does the Achtungkraft mirror look like a boob stuck on the side of a car. I know its not politically correct but Id never be able to look at them without smiling.

So, it looks like these use convex glass to compensate for being tucked in pretty tight against the doors, correct?

I think I am looking for something with flat glass that sits in space at or somewhere near where the glass on the flag mirrors does. Sticking out isn't the main issue for me, it's just the bulky, rectangular shape that seems out of step with the car's lines.

I suspect that leaves me with the 964 and 993 options. Sure would be cool if someone made repros of those. Might be living with the flags, I suspect...

Bullet mirrors are easily disassembled and I’d imagine you could easily swap out whatever glass you wanted.

The issue is that a bullet mirror mounted atop the stock flag mirror mount will have its glass area centered pretty tightly against the door.

The center of the glass of a flag mirror (or a 964/993 type, like in KTL's pic) sits more to the outside of the car, where it is more easily seen.

I recognize a lot of folks want the tighter mounting position. To me, the later style aero-shaped mirrors that stick out like a flag mirror seem like the only solution. I want a mirror that works when looking at the same spot outside the car as the flag mirror, but is just shaped better. Too bad they are $1k!

The bullets are adjustable, I’d wager you can get a pretty good view with a bit of tinkering.

Buy a cheap bullet on eBay and tape it to the door and see if it works.

There is an update to the Achtungkraft passenger side mirror. It uses a new arm that brings that mirror a little further from the car and a less convex mirror. Have one coming next week. Used these on my ‘74 that had been modified with SC Flag mirrors. No good way to cover the flag holes, in the doors, so these were an easy choice. Nicely made and great service.
