225's On All Corners?

OK...so I'm currently running 225f/245r combo on 7 and 8 inch Fuchs 16s. Fronts have close to 50% tread...rears are showing cord thanks to Roebling Road. We all know the problem of NLA 245/45 16s. Has anyone spent any time running 225/50s front and rear simultaneously? Pros? Cons? I like the increased bite/effort with the 225 fronts and wondering if this has been tried. I would expect some additional oversteer, but some air pressure adjustments might minimize the effect.

I'm more concerned with day-to-day than on track. Your thoughts and feedback appreciated. TIA!

That's the other option. I believe the Tirerack calculator shows the 245/50 to be about 7/10's of an inch taller and three inches larger in circumference. Plus selection still isn't great. That means running a tire almost 26 inches in diameter with the resultant geometry and gearing changes.

Trying to think outside the box.....I'm gonna miss the meatier look at the back........

I've seen it on autocross 911's and the street is kind of like an autox right?

Since this appears to be for track and performance use RA1s in 225/50 & 245/45 would seem to be pretty good choice. Even if you never track the car it's still a good choice

For a pure street performance tire there is always Fuzion ZRi in those sizes

i switched from 45s to 50s on mine and they were about an inch taller and the tread was a bit skinnier. Bfgs run skinny though. They look and fit fine. From what i calculated on the miata tire calculator back when i got them. I think the OE size is right between the 45s and 50s. So your only gaining like 1/2" over factory size.

My car is an 84 Carrera/standard panels, and definitely no problems in the back. Had a slight rub on the drivers side when the fronts were new where the rubber/plastic beading sandwiched between the fender and lower valence extended slightly into the wheel well. Five minutes with a file and all was good.

Bill-Haven't tried the Toyos, but that's good advice. Time for a little more research and a decision. Thanks!

I've been running 225's all around for years now, would never go back. I do autocross the car and it's much livelier, but can feel a touch of oversteer under power on the entrance ramps. I'm sure I could dial some of this out with tire pressure as I run 32psi all around. I'm using spacers in the back to help fill out the wheelwells. The added benefit is that I can rotate the tires!

I use 225/45 -15's on 7's and 8's for autocross - Hoosier A6; works really well. I've used the 275/35 -15's in the rear on 9's - the car has a ton of grip, but understeers more and doesn't transition as well. However, it does pull 1.55 lateral G's with the bigger tires, 1.45 with the 225's all around.

I too have been running 225/50/16 on 16x7x8, first with RE-01Rs and now Kumho r-comps. Other than slight rubbing on the front fender lip, I didn't notice any difference in handling. As mentioned you can always play around with tire pressures. I am however going back to 205 fronts next time to see if I can improve the turn-in response.

Keep in mind older 911s came from the factory with square tire setup, and it's not like the later ones had significantly different power or weight distribution.
