I went without side graphics for a while on my widebody. The car started to look like a black bar of soap, to my eyes. I put the PORSCHE text strip on as an alternate to the Carrera script. I haven't regretted the decision.

Remember, they are slide valves, so when you lift they slam shut - FAST. Hence, the instant throttle response. We're running big injectors so a lot of fuel is flowing through that motor, so shut the air valve fast and the residual fuel goes rich, fuel hits hot headers and KaBAM you get flames. We've tuned a lot of that out, but it still barks flames. John

I hear you Jack. Your car looks amazing and the script is just right. I have a complete set of metallic silver that was the original thought. But now I second guessing myself...lol

It sounds like those tips are going supersonic when you light the afterburners.

Plecostomus 03-12-2011 10:33 AM

Wow, that thing is sick. How many hp?

rennch 03-12-2011 09:38 PM

Super sick, all the way around. But then, I'm partial to non metallic grey.

I'd go with a slightly lighter shade of grey for your side script...kinda screen it in like I did.

Are those 17's on there? I'm thinking of selling my Fikse's and getting some 17's, if I can ever source them anywhere for a reasonable amount of money.

jsoderbe 03-12-2011 11:31 PM

John, I looked through your profile for an engine build thread, but couldn't find anything. Do you have one, maybe posted by the builder? I'm very curious.....:):)

Yes, they are 17's...the elusive Zuffenhaus 3 piece Fuchs clones. I also have another set of 17's in 9" and 11" that I would sell. They are at Al Reed's getting the complete treatment (stripping and finishing in the RSR finish, but not complete yet so any finish could be applied). Let me know if you are interested.

Johan

Johan,

We are keeping a few things to ourselves on the motor, but the highlights are:

3.8
RS heads and cams
MoTec engine mgt
Slide valve EFI
Twin plug
Scargo 1.75" headers
Burns stainless exhaust
Custom RSR F'glass shroud and tin

The chassis highlights:

Slate gray
17" Zuff 9's and 11's
Brembo's
14.5" rotors (front) 13" rear
JRZ custom coilovers
Cantrell roll bar
RSR seats (73)
Repa harnesses
Wevo shifter
Custom 915 with LSD
Lightweight Porsche Motorsports flywheel and clutch setup
Hoosier R6's
Custom dash
NHW metric gauges
Lexan rear and quarters
Real 73 RSR flares (steel)

2032 pounds

All in all a ridiculous build that is just about done. I will post up some completed pictures one of these days.

John

Yea, I'd go RSR finish. How much do you want for them? Maybe I can sell my Fikse's and get close'ish to breaking even.

turbobrat930 03-13-2011 07:46 AM

Obsolutely OUSTSTANDING sound!!! F'ing awesome! That is one hell of a nice build...and one hell of a car!

I am around the same weight as you, and hoping for close to 700HP on E-85.... We shall see in a few months...

I paid $3K for the set, then Al will want another $1,000 to make perfect. Send me your email and I will send you pics. They are DEEP. As far as price, make offer I could use the money to buy more stuff for my build....er my sickness...lol

Did you buy them unfinished?

It might be too rich for my blood at $4k. I probably would be maxing out around $2500

$4K is unrealistic but maybe $3K for the as new set would be a great deal for someone. They were painted silver with black centers when I got them. The 9's (fronts) are Truedesign and the 11's are Lindsey. They are perfectly true. The process Al uses, is to completely strip, then annodize the outer lip, then media blast the rest of the centers, and barrels, then paint the center paddles to achieve the 73 RSR look. It's a great deal of work for what he charges, and of course he is one of the best in the business. Great people too.

Great build- the evil twin to my car (both evil in this case)... Love how it holds peak power for 2000 rpm.

Hoping to see this one in person one of these days.

Yes,
That is one of the best dyno videos, to date. Appears to be a very nice/amazing 911.

Keep it clean. We don't need no stinking badges.

al

I would be interested in the wheels if they would fit a 1988 930.

ivangene 03-13-2011 08:30 AM

John, I'm a proud man...but I will beg if have to.....I want a ride!!

I will head over to Al's tomorrow and see where they are in the process. My plan is to finish them, then put in storage. For your application, I would be willing to do a test fit as I am in Newport Beach (your neighbor). It may take some time before they are ready though, it was not a priority once I got my Zuff's.

Funny! Do you know Colin, the owner of Cantrell Motorsports? Our plan is to shake it out on his local track up your way. Now that is going to be fun!
