I finally have all of the pieces accumulated for installing a Carrera tail on my SC. I got a tail, and a deck lid. There are a couple of problems that I am noticing right away that I didn't count on:
1) there are holes in the decklid for the 911SC script (Not a bad thing), but some are not covered by the tail (bad thing). How can I plug these holes??? 2) The tail has a hole for a rear wiper, but the deck lid doesn't. I could either plug the hole in the tail, or drill and mount the wiper (I have the motor and wiper and stuff). Any thoughts? That's all I see right away. I have all of the gaskets, and the paint is a remarkable match, so I would like to avoid painting (but I fear it is impossible. Any thoughts? Thanks, Magilla |

Aside from welding and painting to cover the SC script holes, I don't know of anything. Perhaps very small plugs are available.
As for the WW hole in the tail, I just found a plug at the hardware store and put it in.

There is a factory plug for the rear windshield wiper hole on the tail. Ask Wayne, he might have one for you. If not, I am sure your local dealer can get one. As for the SC script holes, you are probably going to need to build up the area (weld) then grind it flush before painting. Or, if there is enough clearance from the tail base, you could just get a new "SC" emblem. Anyhow, good luck, and be sure to post some post-installation pictures!

Only two holes are showing on my decklid with the Carrera tail. They serve as extra cooling vents.
![]() Someday when I do my bare-metal repaint I'll fill those holes and be done with it. Until then, I'll just keep driving it that way.

Ok, You guys rock! That answers that. The plug for the hole in the tail from Wayne, and Blue's super- duper- more-efficient solution to the holes in the lid!!!!
I will mount it, and see how it looks. I can always have it fixed.... Pic's to come.... Thanks, Magilla |

May I add that these two holes are actually called "Speed Holes", a term first coined by one of my heros, Homer J. Simpson. I too will soon have these "Speed Holes" myself, as I am doing the same mod to my car. End of egotrip.

Just an update for everyone. I got the new tail and lid (complete with speed holes) mounted today. Here is the "before":
![]() Here is the during: (Shameless plug for Wayne's book) ![]() Here is the after: (Prior to wiping down he finger prints) ![]() Thanks to Dave McLaughlin for helping out. He did the toughest part (attaching the 2 new decklid shocks on the fire wall end- my hands wouldn't fit). Magilla |

No sweat.
Now when are you coming over to scrape the under coating off the track 914/6?

My thought's exactly, Leland. Unfortunately since being laid off last April due to the IT market crapping out money is too tight for me to bid.
Why did you change tails?? I like the old turbo tail, it's neat, similar to the newer Carrera tail to look good, and unique. And black, hmm, my car is black, has a front lip spoiler, and no tail, crud! No money anywhere around here. ![]() Anyone need to hire someone to work on their Cisco routers and/or switches?? ![]()

Thanks, Leland! The old tail is up for sale, I guess. I have had several people ask me about it already. The old tail and decklid are a 1 piece F/g unit that weighs about 2/3 of the stock stuff I just put on. I am pretty sure it is aftermarket stuff, and the fit is pretty good.
I am dreading the idea of shipping that thing, though. It is too big! Magilla |

Speaking of tail-swaps, it's too late now since my new stock decklid is at the painters, but how do you get that silver diagram sticker off the darn thing? I got it dis-assembled easily, cleaned it thoroughly, and got the Carrera script off using "Goo Gone" but that sucker was on there too good. The paint shop tried a bit, then said they'd think of something. That (and my new trim rings) will be ready early next week, but I'm at a conference until next weekend so won't be able to install it (and the H4s) for a while yet.

I'm getting paranoid! My carrera tail, which I bought on ebay is at the painters. I keep thinking it wont fit right!! I had the entire base painted red, I hope this looks right. I have seen them with black louvers with a red outline and then the rubber attached, naturally after I sent it to the shop. Too late now as i am sure its done and I am waiting for a gasket to have THEM install it not me,I will blow it for sure! Can you guys tell me are these thing a nightmare to install or can they be adjusted for fit?

I had to drill a total of 9 holes in the deckild. I was very (read: nuerotic) careful about it. It took me about 3 hours to drill the holes, because I was test fitting each time. The good news is that you can make the holes larger than the bolts, and all will be hidden, so you can adjust the mounting. It wasn't very hard, I just was crazy careful about it.
Normally, the grill work is painted black. Call the place, maybe they haven't squirted yet, or they can just redo that part. |

I'm not sure about what you mean. My car's current tail is painted the same Guards Red as my car, with the grill black underneath that. It looks like it was painted before assembly, the same way I'm doing now with the regular decklid. See my .sig for a picture.
