Ignition column question
I've had my '84 Carrera for a couple of months now and have had a minor issue with starting since I got the car.
Sometimes if the car dies on startup or if I shut it down and try to restart without removing and reinserting the key, simply resetting the key to off and then turning it again results in no crank. However, if I take the key out of the column, reinsert it or turn it over to the other side, it will fire right up again. When this doesn't work, using the spare key will also do the trick. Both keys turn fine in the column and it doesn't feel sloppy or loose. Only 79k on the clock. Is this a sign that the tumblers are worn or is this just another quirk of these somewhat quirky cars? Tried doing some searches but didn't come up with anything. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. |

The electric part of the switch is probably the problem, 964.613.012.00. Challenge to remove, I ve just done it in the last few weeks. PM me and I can explain it to you..the easiest way.
