Help...pita rear wheel bearing

I need help !!!

I have a 1984 911 Stock. I am replacing the right rear bearing, or at least trying to.
I removed the old bearing, which was no easy task .
This is where I am right now...
I have pressed on the new bearing into trailing arm;
I have pressed on the splined hub BUT;
it's not seated all the way onto the bearing. As I am trying to get the hub to seat further onto the bearing the hub now won't turn.
I used a crow bar to get it to turn, but its not turning freely.

Any idea? What have I done wrong?

What did you use to press on the bearing?

Would torqueing down hub nut seat the bearing?

I am planning on this task as well.

If the hub is not seated completely on the bearing, the crown axle nut will not thread all the way down.
To press on the bearing I use simple items that can be purschased at Home Depot as described in an earlier thread for bearing removal.
If I had to do this all over again, I might have taken the car down to see the boys at TRE.
This is truly a PITA.

I used my home depot tool to press the hub on. I adapted mine a little to work a bit easier, but if the all thread you bought is long enough it should work easily.

Mine didn't spin freely either, it took quite a bit of force but now they work perfectly. This was about 4 weeks ago btw. One of the worst jobs I've ever done on a car since the hub broke and wrecked everything around it.

Also i put the hub in first and then I put the axle/splined shaft in after it was all together. I don't think it would have been possible (or at least easy) without pressing the hub on first with the home depot tool.

It's possible the brearing was damaged during re-assembly - apparently people forget they must press on the outer race only when fitting the new bearing into the hub - then press on the inner race only when pulling in the hub. If, when pulling in the hub, your pulling device is pressing on anything other than the innner race it is very likely the new bearing has been damaged.

I can't tell from your post if this has happened - just sayin' ...

I sure did Joe.
Pressing on the bearing was not difficult, pressing the hub into the bearing was a little different.
I'm thinking about what jmohn wrote. I'm wondering if i was pressing the wrong race when I installed the hub.
This sucks.

you need to support the inside inner race when you pull the drive flange through the bearing or you will push out that race and usually damage the bearing. put the stub axle through and tighten the nut and see if it frees up and turns without any crunchyness.

I use the tool from ArnnWorx. It is about $105.00 but it makes the job a piece of cake (or as much as it can be) Worth the price. You can find a picture instruction sheet on there web site that might help with how the tool works. Good info even if you don't use there tool. I have done both of mine and only took about 2 hours.

I did this on my 87 Carrera and I used the tool I made up from threads on this forum and had no problem. Take your time, it is not that difficult.....just be methodical.

You HAVE to pull the hub in using the INSIDE race of the bearing to pull against. You can use the inside race from the bearing you destroyed getting the hub out in the first instance.
