What is the best use of that space in your console?

I saw a speaker mounted there. I have considered putting a radar detector there. Any ideas?

i use my pocket to hold my keys (so they won't mark up the dash) , my cell phone, and my smokes. i mounted the remote unit of my radar detector slightly to the left of the tach under the lip of the dash, if it goes off while driving fast and i'm concentrating on driving i wouldn't want to have to look down.

There's an accessory ( or used to be one) that holds casette tapes there, and CD cases fit it vertically. Those are the most common uses. There was a post here recently of an eBay auction of a console that had been altered to hold an LCD display for GPS navigation or DVD-playing.

Speaking of that space... I want to know why I have a vertical plastic bar screwed to the left side of that empty space. I had my console out working on the heating conrtrols and noticed this bar. It seems to serve no purpose, but has a Porsche part number. Any ideas?

Lee...no idea what the part is for. Had /now have my console in pieces. Had to remove switches for BS AC, never belonged there to start with. I do have Porsche Parts Catalog '74-'77, but don't remember any thing like that. I can look if needed. Some times the Parts Cat. shows super great pic.
This console area is a really great place to personalize the 911 Art. I think simple minded mechanicals belong there, but that's 1/2 the story. There must a console, there must be many consoles that are customized/beautiful/practicle/strong/interesting some where. Don't know if I'll read about any this weekend.

Cool

bell..I just read your post again. I try to always do that. I have my V-1 on top of mirror on pass. visor. When you wrote about eye balls I'm thinking your right again. I'm going to buy the "concealed display" Mon. It is a distraction looking up. That means I have to hide the V-1 and display when I get pulled over.

Play Station, DVD...
No question about it put a TV in there, Bling Bling. Just kidding!!!
A V1 radar detector mounted there would look good and might fill in the spot perfectly.

A wad of gas receipts, a few pens, some change, and my coffee cup, once I empty it.

'89911, I would say that's the controls for a Huntley MAF in the bottom with an LED air/fuel mixture meter on top.

Just my WAG

The speaker looks great...

What is the control panel under the ashtray?

Moses, that is the control panel for my Audio Control Model 11 center channel/spacial restoration processor. Left knob controls center channel volume and turns it on, right knob control spacial processing - the more you turn it, the more the speakers in the doors expand out past the boundary of the car. Music sounds much more like you're in a room instead of inside a jukebox.
