For the last 5 years my gas guage was all over the place. Went to porsche wrecking yard and bought another one. It was worse. Went to pelican's tech section and followed the article on how to clean the sending unit. It was very dirty. Cleaned like heck. Put it back in and low and behold.. Still messed up. Took guage out of car and disassembled-very easy. So all I did was spray WD40 all over it and let it dry. Sanded all contacts and srayed all connections. Low and behold it now works great. Can't believe it. I thought that I was going to mess it up even more by doing this. If I did I was just going to get another guage because yesterday I ran out of gas going to the beach. Bummer!
Just thought I would mention this to anyone who is having any sort of eratic guage problems. ![]()

Funny, I had the exact same problem with my 914. Went through the same procedure as you did, and fixed it yesterday as well! Must have been a good Porsche day for fuel guages!
