Is an SC not an SC when it has a 3.2 (or bigger)
First of all, I want to thank all the members of this forum for their passion about our wonderful cars. I've been a lurker for many years now, but I have big news to share that only folks in this forum would understand.
For the last 11 years, I've owned a 82 SC that was pure stock with 95k miles. The engine was tired and I sent the car to the shop for a rebuild. But I was offered the option of swapping out my 3.0 for a 3.2 that had 8k mi. since its rebuild...so I took it! So now, my SC has a 3.2 with a 'special sauce' chip and a Fabspeed muffler. It runs great...! It's really fast...and it has a great sound! I went from this...(sorry Jerry) ![]() ![]() ...to THIS...! ![]() ![]() So, what kind of SC is it? Or is it an SC anymore? ![]() ...and by the way, I'm selling the 3.0...So if you want to know more, contact me and I'll send you the link to it. ---------------- Arnie Diaz, Braselton, GA |

911SemiCarrera....sounds like you are happy with it. You need a new badge on the back is all. Maybe just slap a badge on the grill, "3.2"; but then, not "stealth"...I've always liked duals out the back. Looks good. I imagine it sounds great.

Hi Arnie,
Great SC you have there! My answer is yes the car is still an SC, so you are still good. ![]() Shane

My 3.2 SC is still and SC. (Mine's a 3.2SS, though).
Think we have the same exhaust... |

You have an SC with a Carrera motor. This makes it a non-orginal hotrod and you should be ashamed of yourself...

Seriously, I would keep the original motor if possible...

It is still an SC but just without a dependable motor.

I have a hard time seeing an SC worn out at 95K...

I've always wondered about that.. Everyone hails how 3.0s are nearly bulletproof...it showed 61k when I got it back in 2000...and I had some records to support that claim when I got it...
I tried to drive it as an adult. I never raced it or missed a shift and I kept up with the maintenance...The only peculiar thing about it is that it always ran hot (especially in the summer) and I got a front mount cooler with fan to help... HMMM... |

It's simply an SCarrera. Of course if you run Mobil 1 for Harley's it's an SSCarerra, if you run Brad Penn it's an BPSCarerra, etc. etc...

Definitely a hot rod! But it might be hard for you to wipe that smile off your face when you pass proud owners of slower, stock, numbers matching 911's!

After 214,000 miles I face the same situation. My 3.0L needed about $4,000-5,000 of mechanical work to keep it reliable. Some of the work was machine work and the shop I took it to had a fairly low mileage 1987 3.2L on the shelf. After some great discussions with the shop I decided to do the engine swap.
I think because my SC is solid, very clean and was totally stock it made it hard to no longer have a numbers matching car but SC's will not become collectible in my life time so I am really happy with the benefits of a late model Carrera motor. Not to mention the shop did an artful installation!!! I consider my car to be an SC with a h*rd on ![]() ![]()

Yeah but you didn't put those 61k on the car yourself... records or not. Rebuild or have a 3.0 rebuilt then start from zero...
