245's in rear of an early narrow body?

I have been searching threads for something on this, but found nothing definitive.

Is it possible to get 245 wide tires under narrow body early fenders and if so using what wheels?

I found info in one thread saying yes with aftermarket wheels... but no details.

I am looking to build an early narrow body 911R sort of hotrod for street and track, want to know how wide I can get in the rear for track tires.

I am tempted to go ST... but like the narrow look better plus it is so much cheaper but in my last narrow body car (damn I regret selling that car) I really wanted more grip (I ran 225s). If I could get 245's crammed under there and modify a ducktail to get a tad more downforce....

I had 225/50X15 on a 74 but don't think 245 would fit, certainly not on 16's.

my '72 was really tight with 205's....I've been told 215's are about as wide as you can go without flares....I am darn sure you won't be getting 245's on there unless you go for the off-road look, and raise the ride height enough that there's no chance of rubbing.

then there's the front, with a lowered car, you will certainly rub at full lock on the inner wheel well, and you'll likely rub on the fender lip at full lock, if your car is low....again, I'd say 205's maybe 215's depends on the wheel (offset) and depends on the tire, since one 215 is not the same as the next.....

225s with a lot of negative camber is the best you can do.

I doubt it very much, 225 is tight. But you can get a good estimate of the available room. Just take a tape measure and measure from the inner wall to the inside of the lip. You have to to have a tire that measures less than than in cross section.

I thought marcesq fit 245s in the rear? I seem to remember a thread a long time ago where he was able to make 245s fit in the rear of a '77?

245s will fit in the front of a '69-'89 car with the right offset.

Terry-

There are some interesting comments here.

A wider tire proposition for a narrow body??

If you search "narrow" in the title and also users, Tyson Schmidt, Ischmitz and Shuie you will fin 5-6 more threads that may help.

I have a completely stock 1972 911T with 6Jx15 Fuchs. Will 215/60/15's fit? Tire measurements show they are very close in size to the original 185/70/15's. Thanks.

I've done it with Lindsey Racing 17x8 2 piece Fuchs with 6" backspacing. It was on my '69 briefly before it became a racecar.

The key is getting the right offset wheel, and running the right amount of camber. Also careful clearancing of oil lines.

BTW, when you cut it that close with 245's you really have to pick the right aspect ratio, and watch the brand and model because they can vary immensely.

I was running Kumho Victoracers which have a square shoulder and run fairly wide for a 245, but no way would a Hoosier fit. Hoosiers cheat their sizes up.

I have 225's on fuchs 16x7 with mucho negative camber, 22/28 torsion bars and rolled fenders. Very tight fit. There still is slight rubbibg on the drivers side if i hit a bump large enough.

John I think you should check the tire your thinking of, it will tell you the rim widths it will mount to properly ...

I think a 215 may be close to the limit for most ... my fronts are 225 on a 7.5"

John you have a PM

80-911SC- Thanks. I'll check, but I think you are right about being close to the limit.
