Finally I got one ! New owner thread..

I've been wanting a 911 Carrera since I was about 11 years old when I first saw them in the movies, and had a poster of one up on my wall as a kid. I then really wanted one after having a drive in a turbo when I was about 16. I'm now 35 and married with kids, so the time was right.

After a few threads here on Pelican asking fellow members questions, and getting some handy advice along the way, I took the punt and bought this one. The PPI was really good with the only fault being the rear shocks looked a bit old. Compression and leakdown tests were great (4% on all cylinders), and the engine is strong with a good transmission. The car is very clean with the interior being near spotless and the engine and undercarriage also very clean. The paint is nice, but the spoiler needs a re-paint, and the body could do with a good detail.

It's an 86 model with about 195kms on the clock (or about 117 miles for those on the other side of the world).

I already have a shopping list for the car including finding some original Fuchs wheels, a cat bypass and sports exhaust and probably a chip.

Here are some pics I took today in front of my office:

I can now see why all you guys are always talking about how fun these cars are to drive.

There were some 7 & 8 inch Fuchs for sale on the Pacific Northwest Pelican site for $1300. I don't know if they're still available or how feasible it'd be for you.

Cool car. I'm still looking for mine!

I hope you were given a good deal because the steering wheel is on the wrong side!!! Seriously nice car 1986 and red = the best in my book.

I always wanted the classic 80's red sports car. I started to really like GP White when I saw a couple of nice 911's, but in the end I'm very happy with the red.

Unfortunately the seller wants pick up only. Not sure how I would go shipping wheels from the US to Australia.

Actually I probably paid double. I could have got the car half price had the steering wheel been on the other side

They are a 17" Simmons wheel (I think they are an FR 1 or something).
Supposedly they're a lightweight alloy wheel, but I am yet to take them off to find out

Beautiful! Same story here-just got a 911 after falling in love with them when I was 11. They're so much fun to drive. Enjoy!

Thanks, I've always liked those rims with the rivets on the periphery, like those 70's-80's deep dish hotrod rims.

Beautiful car except for the misplaced steering wheel!

I like those wheels, you should keep em.

Your car is the classic image we all had stuck in our heads when we were dreaming of owning one ourselves. Gotta have a set of fuchs, but I would keep those as well, they really work on that car. Nice ride, and welcome to the dark side!

This.

One of the cleaner engines I've seen for this model!
