Shocking

I feel I know the answer but does my bad running 77 2.7 have anything to do with the occasional shocks I get when handling the plug wires while it's running?
Thanks

Uh.... Yes! Shouldn't be shocked when you touch the plug wires - sounds like a tune up is in your near future plans! You might be surprised how well it will run afterwards.... Don't cheap out - wires, plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter etc.... Oh and a fresh tank of premium gas too.

Fire it up some night and look for evidence of arcing (blue corona if not actual sparks) - you wires could be due.

I think they're due, but lastnight I borrowed some braided oem wires from a neighbor and still have the same problems. I feel it must be fuel related. I have a permatune, I checked the Plugs(fine) but not much else yet. Symtoms are occasional(often) rough and popping stumbling to around 3k and then fine. It's odd. Feels like wires but the. Fine above 3k? I'm stumped.

For us that are not native American speakers.... What does "bad running" mean?

It could be electrical, fuel related or even mechanical. Please state the symptoms.

Regardless, the isolation of the wires should have prevented the shock, probably its dry-cracked . I would also check the distributor cap for cracks.

Cheers,

Check above for rough popping and stumbling to around 3k and then fine.

See if you can get a Bosch or MSD unit to try, Permatune units have been known to go bad from time to time. Check the engine ground strap also. And a new set of Magnicor or Clewett wires won't hurt. And of it still misses, you know it's not the ignition system.

I have a new msd unit that I'll install. I also don't know about the points. Those are cheap so maybe just replace them too.
