90s Vette vs 84 Carrera

Okay, ran into a Vette, 90s, who wanted to dance.
Qualifiers:
1) In all honesty, I didn't punch it until he did. I took off slowly and waited for him to respond, punching just after he did.
2) It was on a slight curve along ventura blvd, and I had the outside lane, which was the reason I was hesitant. And also, I'd rather pick on Acuras to be honest and would only go for it if he made me--which he did.

From his side. He had a passenger. A male. Don't have an estimate of his weight as I only saw his head.

Result:
Dead even. When I say even, I mean our bumpers were literally lined straight up. And we were both giving it all we had right through the gears (3rd). He was gunning to pass as there were cars in his lane (middle) and none ahead in mine. But his attempt to move ahead and hopefully pass were dashed as we went through the gears in a complete dead run, and in the end, he had to simply move a lane to the right at which point I slowed back down to 40.

I'm calling it a draw. I like my chances in a race where we both take off in a straight line, and each with one passenger. I think it'd be very close.

I know I know. Damnit. The new clutch is money well spent. That's the last off-the-line race for me for a while, for sure.

Especially on Ventura--jesus, you know Michael J. Fox's character on Back to the Future who cannot back down to a taunting of 'Chicken?!'
Okay, that's me.

Kurt, spend one day on the track and you will forget all about these meaningless pissing contests. I know it's fun humiliating other people with big ego's, but the track is the real measuring stick.

Drag racing only proves who has the fastest car, not who the better driver is. Get a roll bar for that thing, and a helmet. then you can learn to appreciate that car like it was meant to be.

The roll bar is the sticking point. A cab is great, and I love it, but I need a rollbar to race, and with that it'll kill the look. Maybe I should start a new thread, but can I get a rollbar that contours the seats a la boxsters and other new cars?

That might be the way to go...

It only has to be in there for the event. Take it out when you are done. No probs. Besides, you want the top up while racing anyway.

Such hypocracy!! Yeah Kurt, stop that street racing you BAD BAD boy!! And just think of the wear on your brand new clutch! Not to mention the loss of fuel economy by holding the throttle wide open. Just think of all the emmissions you were puking all over the environment. I'm truly shocked at your behavior!!

If you don't like my driving stay off the sidewalk.

The track is BS. I've been on "the track". Power rules on the street, not the driver. You're sure as hell not going to run flat out 100% through a curve in a street race. You run flat out for a few seconds in a straight line. You need track experience for that?

Different venues, different rules.

Frank, (82 SCtarga), Those are great pictures, I really enjoyed them. Are the trophies for drag-racing, or car shows, or ? Anyhow, looks like you have lived a good life, had fun w/ cars, and it ain't over yet. Nice 911!

82 SC Targa, that Vette is beautiful. I would drop my 911 in a heartbeat to get ahold of one of those. Probably one of the only cars I would ever say that about. My dad had a couple of them and is probably racing around in the clouds with yours.

Sometimes I also feel like a little traffic light race The only reason I don't do it very often is that it's pretty hard on the clutch and gearbox - repairs are expensive.....

Anyway I know that my sloooooow gearchange (worn gearbox) is a big obstacle. Family sedans can outrun me in standing starts. It's much more fun when we're in second gear going about 30 km/h and someone tries to squeese in front only to teach "the show off" in the P-car a lesson.

Did race an english registered Lotus Elise once on a danish motorway. I thought they had a top speed of 220 km/h??? This one was faster - he kept following me

Just ran into an eclipse with something special--he was keeping even. Anyway, I had a guest in the car who told me to stop acting like a child.
So I did. For as long as I could manage the guy revving next to me. Then I punched it a bit.

You folks...you ain't seen nothing like driving around Ventura Blvd late at night. There are so many cars out just plain looking for trouble. How often does one see a Ferrari, 2 Dodge Vipers (with racing stripes) etc on a drive to just to get a late bite to eat? And every driver is wide eyed and looking your machine over like a predator. Incredibly funny.

Wish you talley whackers were here sos we could talk about it all over a beer!
