Engine Drop - Quick Question
Hi All,
Just a quick one... (stupid I'm sure!) When doing an engine drop, can the heat exchangers/exhaust take the weight of the engine without damage? So if I place timber across a small movable stand (rated at 1500lbs) that would be ok? Or do I have to support via the crank casing rather than the exchangers? Cheers |
You can set the engine on the HEs. No problem.....

Thanks Joe Bob!

I would use the case seam. Reason is that you have to raise the gearbox nose to clear the tunnel. See engine support thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/401955-supporting-engine-removal.html

Took about 20 minutes to sculpted the 4x4 to the contour of the case seam. The two piece of wood underneath the HE are about 1/2" from them and only there "in case". I'm working on the next version with a front lifter build in. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301650305.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301650365.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301650467.jpg |
Sweet! That's some hardware there.

Thanks guys...
Nice carpentry work there JJ... want a job? LOL I guess if I was going to have the engine out and on the HE's for an extended period of time, I'd craft a work of art like JJ has. I'm hoping (once I have all the seals from Pelican etc) to be out and in in a weekend ish? I've got to get it all sorted in the next month as the car goes off for resto paint!!! Woohoo! Cheers |
