Which do I keep and why? 83 Cab or 86 coupe

I do not think I can afford both .... which to keep and why?
I live in Orlando so great weather

1983 Cabriolet Yellow with 145k engine & clutch rebuilt in 2008 and new top in 2009
1986 Coupe with 113k (purchased Fuchs 8 & 7 to be painted and installed soon)

The 3.2 feels faster and handles better
The 3.0 being Cab and Yellow get more attention

If you have a good working A/C the you should consider the cabriolet. A must in hot climate!
Of course I may be a bit biased... if you look at my sig

Swap the wheels and keep the coupe.

While both of these cars are great cars to own...my thoughts are keep the 1983 Cab. The 1983 Cab was first introduced in that year and may actually become a collector's item. Plus, 1983 was a good year...okay, I am biased.

Good luck with your decision.

With the nice weather, I think you'd miss the Cab more than you'd miss the speed difference. With the money you'll save in only having one car, you can afford a chip, sport exhaust, cat bypass and it will be just as quick as the 3.2 stock. You've already got the rebuilds recently under belt as well... if you're looking to cut back on expense, that's my vote. Plus, I really like that color combo, esp. for a Florida car...there's just no trading the experience of a cab, hearing the engine roar in open air.

Looks like a euro-spec SC in Summer Yellow. Nothing personal, but since you asked, without a doubt would keep the 3.2 coupe and swap the wheels.

There's no good answer. But neither direction is a mistake. If you are going to go autocrossing or DE, then the coupe has several things going for it.

The yellow one is a nice one, for sure.

I'm looking at a similar question, and I think I'll be keeping the 86 coupe. Lately though, I can make a great case for the 82 as well. They are different enough that each has their strong points.

If I could only have one car it would definitely be an open top car.

My $0.02,
Is there anything else in your life that you could sacrifice that would allow you to keep both? It's a tough call, I'd hate to be in your shoes.
Given where you live, and purely for driving, I'd keep the cab.

I don't "think" I can afford both cars????

Well Mr. Sail Maker, You're a little wishie washie about whether you can or can't afford to keep both cars and whether you're a top down driver or a sun-roof driver. I think if you were a little more definite about those 2 questions the choice would be easier.

Maybe you should sell both cars and get the "perfect P car?

Sell them both and get a Targa. Please don't tell me it never rains there... Cabs look funky with the top down (IMO).

While I really like convertables in general, I've never liked 911 cabs.
Why cut the roof off of a perfectly good race car?
I also prefer cars that do not generate too much attention.

My choice would be easy, but my choice doesn't matter, does it?

There's no such thing as a "chip" for an '83, but you do have a good point.

Sailmaker, if you want to 'have fun' and not worry about working on your car, it looks like you can do that with the cab, and your maintenance stuff is all taken care of.

If you want to go to the track, or 'go fast', and you're not worried about future expenses, (like you will have in the next 75K), then go with the coupe Carrera.

'83 is good, because it is the end of a run, and as mentioned it is the first year of convertible.

'86 is a tough sell for Carreras because it still has the 915 transmission.

Coupe. Does not leak, solid feel, much better resale in silver than yellow. I had a yellow convertible once.

Before I saw the pics my vote was keep the coupe as I generally don't like open top cars.

After seeing the pics - I vote for keeping the cabriolet. It looks sweet. The coupe looks, sorry, rather ordinary.

I'm not an SC or a topdown fan but that is just one sweet looking one.
