Question HELP - "80 SC Door Speaker Size

Separated from my 80 SC for a couple of months (car in Hawaii and me in Bangkok) and have a chance at some good door speakers but can't remember the size??

What is the standard size speaker for the door for '80 SC Targa??

Thanks.
Bruce

The factory speakers were smaller than 6.5" Some 6.5 inch speakers will fit, others won't, unless the hole in the door is modified. Also, It makes a difference whether you want to mount them under the door panel or through/on top of it.

Esa...how can you say that with such "certainty", yet still be wrong?.... 5.25" is factory size...no question.

If you're not sure, at least say so.....

Also have to be careful about depth. The frame and magnet on some 6.5's may be too deep for the door cavity and will require spacers.

Just put 6.5" into the 82 SC, but I did choose a shallower depth speaker from the lists, and with good mounting hardware included in the box's kit.

It was no trouble beyond compensating for other sloppy prior installs, and allowing for loosening the door panels to reach behind during mounting. Maybe 60 minutes for the first side, and 30 minutes for the second side. Turned out great, and was a significant improvement over the formerly installed items.

You can make damn near ANYTHING fit without cutting the metal. I'm installing 8's in my targa now with ZERO metal work its a matter of front spacing and creativity.

I would say come up with your budget before you shop, bottom line... You can spend HUNDREDS on a factory sized 5 1/4 but great ones will require an amp to really benefit from the expense. If we are talking 150 bucks or less you have countless brands to choose from. It boils down to what you think sounds the best, you may get 15 recommendations on brand and size but they may sound like JUNK to your ears. Go listen to some and shop around.

Wow! Thankfully, no. The door panels had other holes from the earlier and earliest speakers, and maybe one mounting hole out of a half dozen was safely usable. I got the feeling that there may have been a moment where someone had stolen speakers from this car.

Years ago, cars had crappy stereos. Nowadays, not so much.

Sorry! Those Kenwoods I took out were 6,5", no problems in fitting.
It may have been that original was smaller.
Isn't it so that bigger is better?

in a case like this you can go to Walmart and buy a cheap 1/4" or less white plastic cutting board 'starboard' and cut a plate to cover up what was once done to the car. Cut the board larger than the hole in the door to cover it. Screw this to the door, cut your speaker hole in the plastic and your back in biz. using this material you don't have to worry with water destroying the adaptor or mess with having to coat it with resin. the one thing to add is some 'gorilla snot' butyl to seal the starboard to the metal. With the leftovers shove it between the outer skin and the door brace.
