I'm not sure whats going on, but I have a CV joint going bad so I decided to replace the entire driveshaft with a rebuilt. When I received it and compared they weren't the same. The new one (923.332.033.02) has a different boot flange which butts up against the joint. The old one overlapped it. The bottom line is the gripping area on the bolts is reduced by about 7mm or 5/16 inches. It has original 1980 engine & trans. An old thread seemed to alluded to this change and suggested removing the steel plates under each bolt pair. That won't make up the difference. Do I need longer bolts? The bolts are about 48mm from shoulder to end. Any help clearing this up would be appreciated. Mark.

Mark the Inhex bolts for the C.V. joints on your rebuilt shaft with the different flange/boot assembly should be 8mm x 50mm with 1.25 thread pitch. You should always replace those bolts anyway, and get grade 12.9 bolts.

You know, as a side note to this discussion...
...According to my cars records, a mechanic noted that the left CV shaft boot was torn on my car back in like '95 or so. I bought it in '98. I thought to myself... gee...it's been busted for a couple years...the CV joint is most likely on it's last leg... thinking "I'll just wait for it to start making noise and replace both of them for good measure." Well...what...did my car come with the "Jim Christensen" version of CV joints... are they made of Supersteel? I really expected the one to fail before now... hasn't made a peep...35K later. Wierd....

Thanks Brett. After studying the differences I concluded that because the original boot flange was thinner it required the spacer for the bolt pairs. Now with the thicker flange the spacers were no longer required, but it did require the longer 8X50mm bolts. Mark.
