Red dot on stud
Someone once told me why one wheel stud is painted red. Can't remember for the live of me why, but today I put new rims and tires on the car. The new tires have a red and a yellow dot on them. Is it possible that they should be lined up with the painted stud? Just a thought. Philip

The valve stem should either be aligned with the red dot on the stud,or opposite it..
Or so I have heard.

usually you mark a stud if there is a weight problem ... if the rim weights in correct in one position and off in others then you mark for alignment with your valve stem ....
With new rims and tires if you have a small shake in the wheel you may want to re clock your wheel one stud and try again ... then remark the stud then aligns correctly with your stem ..... Steve |

Used to be that the red dot on the tire was the heavy spot so it got mounted 180* from the valve stem. Don't know why the stud is marked. May be that the PO marked the high (or low)
spot on the hub.
