You need Porsche tool # 911.33.235.9 which costs 47gizzilion dollars.
The speedometer is acutally just pressure fit in, and if you can get a good enough grip it will come out. The first time I pulled mine, I covered the tip of a screwdriver with a layer of electrical tape and used that to carefully pry the speedo loose. If you are careful, the tape gives enough padding so that there are no telltale marks when you are done. good luck |

this is how i do it. get a flat head screwdriver and place the head right under the bezel, between the rubber and the bezel to be exact. without prying against the other gauges, put your hand under the screwdriver with the head under the bezel and gently pry the guage out.

If you have ong arms you can pop on of the left most gauges out from the front trunk and then putting your fingers through the hole push the speedo out from inside the car. This is a good method since there is no possibility of scratching anything, but I have used a butter knife to pry the gauges out before without any problems as well.
One note, the speedo is a very tight fit due to the steering wheel, but you can get it out without removing the steering wheel. It just takes a little wiggling and taking the speedo out at an angle once you get it started and the steering wheel starts to interfere.

Earlier cars have a bracket that mounts from the back. Check on the year for the change-over. We damaged the dash on my 1969 by prying as per typical instuctions. So many things changed in 73-74 - just be sure cause it "won't budge".
Best of luck

The best way I belive is to remove the clock on the right first. It is very light weight and will remove eazier. Its also easy to get a hold of. After it is out stick your fingers in the clock opening and push from behind to get the speedo out. Order a new rubber ring to put on the speedo it will allow it to come out easier next time. If you put any oil, grease, or other lube on it ( the old ring) it will come out easy for a while but then it will become worse. Just order the new one and don't put anything on it.
