Galled Oil Cooler threads
With a ton of heat, I just got one of the short hoses off the front fender mounted oil cooler in my 86. The hose end took most of the threads with it.
Rest of the cooler is great. I'm anticipating the same removing the rear lines from the thermostat. What are some typical fixes? Bond on new metal connectors? Cut and TIG weld on new bosses? Something else?

Thread boss
We have some special thread boss bungs we had made for the thermostat. We cut off the damaged theads and tig weld on the new threaded bung. Contact Jeff Gamroth @ Rothsport Racing for the part. 503 885 9626

Don't remove any hoses that you don't have to. I leave everything connected and drop it as a unit. The thermostat fittings are especially "resistant to change" in my experience.

Friend did the same as rsscotty said- friend sent it to Otto in Venice and he put on new fittings to the cooler.
Be sure to strike the t-stat nuts to not only try to break the threads loose, but also the crud in between the ID of the tube nut and the steel tubing Do you absolutely have to remove the lines to the t-stat? If you have leaky hoses, how about cutting the crimp collars from the hoses and getting new hose. Then crimp the hose on with new crimp clamps like the Oetiker ear crimp type.

For hoses that your are going to replace, slice throught the nut and then use a chisel to tap in the slice such that you are twisting the nut off with every tap. Don't worry about the threads as far as sealing goes - the line doesn't seal on the threads.

something of a case of being penny-wise and pound foolish on these particular lines.
I'm dismantling because all hoses leak. Am having a local shop, Pelican BoxsterGT, rebuild all the lines including an early crossover and custom over the wheel line for putting a 3.2 into a very low 73 with 225s in the rear. So it made sense to try to not cut these off, at the time. Going to shelve the rest for the week until I can get the cooler fixed and re-evaluate. Thanks for the replies, especially on Rothsport.
