Rear torsion bar removal - 85 Carrera
Is it possible to remove the torsion bar by just undoing the two closest 24mm nuts, (the one on the locker, and the one on the eccentric)?
Or, is the preferred way to remove the whole spring plate by removing the other four fasteners and screwing up the alignment? I've done the bars on my 73, but it does not have adjustable plates and I was just wondering. thanks Bill K (picture lifted from another thread - thank-you) ![]()

Bill,
You need to remove the entire plate assembly. The adjustable plates are able to be disassembled into separate pieces by removing the nuts for the lock bolt and eccentric height adjuster, but it's best done on the bench. Complete removal is a must if you've got rubber bushings on the spring plate tube, which are bonded to the tube surface. With poly bushings you may be able to attempt partial removal. You can see from this thread how the pieces are assembled. New Spring Plates - Check this out ... The inner bushing would have to slide off the tube in order to pull the tube-fitted piece out of the t-bar housing

Thanks Kevin - I had not seen that thread (2003
![]() I've been looking at Chuck's (Elephant) replacement torsion bar seat with adjustable height, which can be used with my existing plates, so I thought the two would be independent and I could just remove one and not the other. Thanks for the enlightenment. Bill K
