New Spring Plates - Check this out ...

Not really new, but they sure look like it! Had posted previous photos of my re-plated spring plates when I got them back from the plater and some asked to see them installed - so here they are. Best $60 've spent in a while ...

They sure look preeety nice.
All of my suspension bits and pieces are at the platers and should be ready TODAY (actually, they were ready on Monday but they screwed up and did the everything silver).
I had the brake backing plates done, every nut, washer and bolt, all the mounts for the sway bars, everything that looked like it should be that color. I too will post pics.

Yellow Zinc plating is great to do with hardware and just about anything steel you can take off the car for plating. Trouble I have is since platers charge by the batch, I end up taking the lawnmower and the garage door opener apart and get EVERYTHING plated at once

Looks great!!

I had them done at a place just outside of Cleveland called Cantury Plating. Came out prett good - I put in new t-bars last year and cleaned them up so well thay started rusting - so I was more interested in the protection than the aesthetics - but they sure look good. I rushed to get them to the plater and forgot two bolts and washers??

Vance,

Looks great. Did you by chance mean Century Plating? Are they the ones off of Waterloo Rd? Looks like they do good work - I may give them a call.

Gary - That's the place (fat fingers?). They do good work, mostly commercial stuff, so you have to ctach them at the right time to get cad done - the guy knows his stuff and was willing to do it again for issues that I did not even notice. When you call ask for Greg, #440-342-0740.

If you think of it let me know. I have a few bolts and washers that I forgot that I would like to get done.

Hi Vance,

There have been a number of people who say cadmium plating is similar to yellow zinc.

Given your experience, is this cadmium plating similar in color to yellow zinc? It looks like your plated parts are the correct "color" and "texture" to the original factory.

Had you done any research prior to getting yours plated?

Vance,

Thanks for confirming. I'll make a note to let you know if I end up taking parts to them - you can include any of the left-over bolts, washers, etc, that you need to have done. I'm probably a month out before I'll be ready to do that though.

Andras - I spoke to my wrench who had experience with both and he said if I could find the cad that is what he would recommend. The cad plating provides a rainbow hue that zinc does not and is what they came from the factory with. I was looking for protection more than anything else, but for the same price (and convenience) it was a no-brainer.

Gary - Let me know. If we can work it out great, otherwise do't worry about it.

Thanks Vance,

This is the same conclusion I have come to, following conversations with the one and only cadmium plater in South Florida. It seems to be a relatively inexpensive process, all things considered, but it sure makes for a pretty result.

My impression is that cadmium plating is "rainbow"-like, as you said, and yellow zinc is more of an even-appearing finish. I think Porsche got it right, and all these yellow zinc looks are, well, "fake" looking.

Keep the faith, y'all!!!!!!!

For comparison, here are a few pics of yellow zinc plated spring plates:

Spring Plate Reassembly After Plating

This is one of those pics:

I couldn't find a reasonably priced cad plater here in the SF Bay Area.

FWIW, yellow zinc can be applied in different thicknesses depending on anticipated exposure.
